Roster Building Question
I have three very good players that will be making up my outfield for the upcoming season of my game. Here are their defensive ratings:
Player A: Player B: Player C: Who would you stick in which outfield spot? The main reason I ask is I'm not sure whether it would be better to have player C's arm in right field or center field, since they all have similar range, which is the biggest part of being a CF. Thoughts? |

I'd play B in RF because he's got the arm. The 1 rating is almost certainly because he has limited experience there which you'll eliminate eventually by playing him in RF everyday.
I'd play C in CF, he has the best OF range and he's an experienced CF That leaves A for LF and his rating should increase as his playing time in LF goes up as well. Last edited by t-bone shuffle; 07-31-2008 at 03:52 PM. |

B - LF
C - CF A - RF I normally want highest range in CF, biggest arm in RF, and LF the best of whoever is left. They all have almost the same range so since C has the most experience in CF I'd put him there. Two of them have big arms but one of them is rated only 1 in RF so he's out, the other being your most experienced CF. Since the only thing A lacks is a big arm, but is rated the highest in RF, I'd put him there. Which leaves B going to LF. He's a 93 in LF and has a big. They don't fit the exact ideal setup but that's still pretty good. Your RF will lack a cannon arm (although your LF will) and you don't have a pure CF. Without all that said...your OF defense will be pretty solid. All have near excellent range, your LF and CF will have great arms, and your LF and RF will be rated in the excellent range of their respective positions while your CF would have be well above average. |

My rational was that you want the best arm in RF and that position no questionly goes to C. He's also the most experienced there now so it's the best fit. My CF needs to have range and not make errors. His arm doesn't matter as there's not TOO many 8-2 plays. Given that range wise, A and B are the same, but A has slightly less errors, and the fact that B's arm has the possibility to be used more from LF to home than CF to home, the better fit for these two players in my defense would be A at CF and B at LF

Holy crap! I never thought of it that way...I would have instantly put player A in RF because he has the highest rating at RF....Never crossed my mind that a player who is rated 1 at a defensive position doesn't necessarily mean they suck at it...they just may not be experienced at that position because they never play it. Wow, I think that just gave me an entirely new perspective on how to fill my depth charts. Thanks T-Bone!!!! |
