Will the AI ever be good?

I'm the Royals and I've taken the responsibility of setting the lineups and staff etc.

I played Jason Smith for most of the year and he's hit .299 with 15 HRs and a .355 OBP.

Now, I allow my manager to set roster decisions and he brings up Mike Aviles to play short who got to play previously when Smith was hurt for a month. Aviles hit .202 with 2 HRs in 102 ABs that month. So why would the manager sit a guy that's producing so well for a dingbat?

These kind of things annoy me. And they're frequent. Oh, and yes, I've played around with the ratings weight and stats weight, but the decisions don't seem to change no matter what numbers I put in.

Maybe Aviles is better defensivly, the AI does put imho a little too much empistis on defence. is Aviles a rookie, they will sometimes not do as well as you would expect for the first couple of weeks they are in the big show, what where his numbers in AAA?

The MLB roster is a 'historical' league, is it not? Can you go into League Setup>Options and check 'Base roles/positions on'. If it's historical, you'll have the option to use either Real Stats or AI Evaluation (this phrase is used several places). Try Real Stats and see how you like that.

Nope, not historical..

But Aviles wasn't doing much in AAA, .265 with 1 HR

The title of this thread might be just a tad exaggerated. Its like the kid brought home a report card with 4 A's a B and a C and you ask him whether he will ever be a good student.

Unless he's asking in like a "Harry Potter vs. Voldemort" kind of way, in which case the answer is "no, the AI will always be like Voldemort".

OK, just want to verify - so those options don't appear for you in that league?

I wouldn't know as I haven't formatted the league.
