Losing .exe
Let me say at the onset I am not very computer tech savvy. Never have had this issue before with previous versions. Have the latest edition and latest patch. Live in the Midwest and a couple weeks ago a storm blew through and we lost power.
After booting up my computer again, the desktop icon for OOTP 9 was gone and the exe icon was there. When I would click on it, it would search and search for the .exe. When I went to my program files as well as the files in My Documents the .exe was gone. I uninstalled the game and reinstalled with no problem. Same thing happened last night, power off due to weather and no OOTP 9 exe. Not sure why that exe is being lost after a power outage. All other files are fine. Ideas? Thanks, Jeff |

Not sure, but it may be time to backup any important files you might have in case the HD is getting ready to go. I would suggest running a defrag before your next clean install and running some HD diagnostics wouldn't hurt either.

Thanks. Just defragged this weekend. Funny thing is I have many other text games, etc and have never had this issue. Just since the OOTP 9. The computer is two years old has tons of space available and runs well.
I assume within the computer there is a hard drive diagnostic program, or is there one you would suggest? J |

Do you get the same effect if you choose OOTP 9 from the Start Menu?

Yes. Any attempt that is made whether from the Start menu, or the icon shows it is searching for the .exe. And like I said, when I go to the files there is no .exe there and I know there has been.

What virus software are you running? if you can, check the logs. maybe it's getting a false positive and deleting it?

AVG 7.5 I know there have been issues with AVG, but this is the paid product and I thought most of the issues were with the free versions. I ran a full system scan Saturday and had no issues. I will check though.
Are there issues with AVG 7.5? I thought the issues were with free, as I said, and version 8.0 J Last edited by Jliven61; 07-21-2008 at 10:23 AM. |

Can you just do a screenshot of your C:\Program Files\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 9 directory.

Tony - I am sorry I am away from that computer. And I went ahead and uninstalled again before coming to the board, and plan on reinstalling later today. What should be in that directory? I only saw four things - Elicense, maybe a reinstall.dll or something like that, couple other items. Sorry.
What are your thoughts? J |

I've got two directories (data and uninstall) along with the elicen40.dll, license.txt, msvcr71.dll, receipt.txt, readme.txt and ootp9.exe - I also have a couple of other files but I've put them there. Did the uninstall report any errors?

No uninstall issues. Sorry for not being a better help with this. I did have to attempt twice to uninstall, as once while deleting files it got hung up on a png.file. I cancelled and ran again and there were not any uninstall errors, or issues.
I am heading home for lunch later and will check the AVG log. Do you think that could be the culprit? J |

Yeah and that has not been the case. Usually, I run the scan and it will log the issues, then I will check them out.

Nothing in the AVG log that had anything to do with OOTP. Hard Drive seems fine. I will say that another round of severe storms rumbled through the area again last night and I turned off the computer. When I booted up this morning all was fine. It has happened twice and both times as a result of an abrupt break in the power.
Not sure what the problem is. I will watch this and if it happens again I will look at the program file to see what may be gone. Thanks... Jeff |
