BZ 1834: Rule 5 Draft Can't be Enabled in OOTP 9

I am playing a league that I started in 1945 in OOTP 2007. I had the Rule 5 Draft turned off for the league throughout it's history, which was simulated through 2005 and then I took over playing one of the teams.

Prior to the 2013 season, I imported the league into OOTP 9 and have currently played one season. During this season, I decided that I wanted to start having a Rule 5 draft since my team had too large a stockpile of minor league talent.

But when I went to the league setup to turn the draft on, I discovered that the "Enable Eule 5 Draft" box was already checked, even though the next draft was not schedule into 2079 as it had always been in OOTP 2007. So it was shown as on, but not actually on.

I read a post here stating that this could only be added in the preseason, so I played out the rest of the year and it is now the 2014 preseason. The rule 5 draft did not happen at the end of 2013, as expected. But now I can't seem to enable it even in the preseason.

I have tried turning the check off and back on and there is no change in the projected date of the next dr5aft (12-01-2080). I have tried turning the check off and simulating a day and then turning it back on and simulating a day in case it was just a problem with dates updating. But I am currently a week into the preseason and it still says the draft won't be held until 2080.

I don't believe I have forgotten to set any other option in the league setup that would affect this. Active roster size is 25, expanded and secondary roster size is 40. Option years are enabled and Rule 5 Draft shows as enable, although it never was in OOTP 2007.

Can somebody let me know how to turn the draft on? Thanks!

I have a similar issue. Imported OOTP 2007/8 historical league with Rule 5 draft turned off since it wasn't getting scheduled properly with historical leagues. I was hoping the bug was fixed in OOTP 9 so during the pre-season I went to re-enable the Rule 5 draft, but the box remained greyed out.

Glad it's not just me. Sad to hear it's probably another bug. Might only be with converted leagues.

If you started the league in 1945, why is the rule 5 draft showing as being in 2080? Which screen are you seeing that date on?

Sorry if I wasn't clear. The draft has never run since the league started. But when I look at the key upcoming dates in the autoplay drop down menu, it never disappeared. OOTP 2007 (and later, OOTP 9) would just show it as being scheduled approximately 65 years into the future. So right now all other dates on the menu (Spring training begins, ML first year player draft, Opening day, All-star teams announced, etc.) appear at the appropriate point in this current season (2014), but the very last event shown is "12-01-2080: Rule 5 Draft." And every year when I get to December the draft doesn't happen and that date increments by one year, so it's always 66 years away. But now I would like to turn it on and have it occur in 2014, and I can't seem to do that.

Actually, when I went back and checked, I started the league in 1940 instead of 1945. So the very first time that date appeared on the autoplay menu would have been (I think) 2006. That may just be a coincidence. If it was 2007, I'd assume that was just the default "current" date for historical leagues that do not use the Rule 5 Draft. But I doubt that is related to my problem, so I will stop hypothesizing.

This was a regular occurring problem with 2007-2008 where it was hit or miss when you started your league whether Rule 5 would work or not. And when it didn't work it gave a crazy date in league events. However I have NOT encountered that problem yet with this version. Hope this helps.

So just to verify, in all historical leagues started before 1945 using version 9.1.2, one cannot later successfully enable the Rule 5 Draft? Do I have that right?

I'm not sure if this is directed at me, but the only answer I can give is that I have no idea if that is correct. I just know that I can't enable the Rule 5 Draft is this one league that I started in 1940 in OOTP 2007, and then imported into OOTP 9.1.2.

Per Markus: "Fixed. Disabling and then enabling the draft will reschedule the date now..."

This issue has been claimed fixed for the upcoming patch (post 9.1.6). If after installing it you still see this behavior, please post in Tech Support. Thanks.
