Help a new OOTP player

As the title states, I'm new to OOTP. OOTP9 is the first version I have played.

I just finished simming through my first ever season, which I have to admit was alot of fun. As I was starting to sim the 2nd season, I noticed that I had a couple of guys in my minor leagues who were out of options and the game allowed them to stay there without any consequence.

So my question is, how do I enable minor league options in the game? I have looked over the league rules numerous times, but I cannot seem to find anything that turns this on.

Is there some sort of difficulty slider in the game that I missed? I don't want to be playing on easy mode

Any help would be appreciated

When a player is out of options it doesn't mean that they cannot be in the minors, it just means that if they happen to get promoted to the Majors they must clear waivers before they can be demoted back down to the minors.

If he is out of options, that means that he can't be sent down again from the majors. if he gets a major league job and they want to send him to the farm they can't, they have to put him on waivers and take the chance that he would be taken by another team. Out of options (unless I'm wrong) has nothing to do with his play in the minors.

Thanks

I appreciate the responses, though both of you are off a bit in your information

Every year a player is on a 40 man roster and playing at the minor league level, that player is on optional assignment. Every year, in order to have a player from your 40 man roster play at the minor league level, a team has to option him to the minor leagues. It really has nothing to do with playing on a big league roster or not.

So back to the original question, how do I turn the minor league options on?

1. Click on game setup.
2. Click on league setup for the specific league that you want to turn this on.
3. Go to the "Rules" tab.
4. You should see the option Minor League Option Years. Check that box and you should be set.

Ok I found that, it was already checked

I simmed another season just to make sure and when I started my 3rd season, I still have players out of options playing at the minor league level and none of them had to pass through waivers

Anyone else have this problem? Is there anything else I can do to fix it? Possible bug?

Do you have waivers set? How many days? It's right above option years.

Yeah I have waivers on, set for 10 days. The waivers work fine for any guy on my 25 man roster who is out of options, the problem I am having is with the guys who are on my 40 man roster, out of options and already at the minor league level. The game is not requiring them to clear waivers in order to play at the minor league level each season.

Any other suggestions?

The first couple of responses to this thread regarding how options work were describing the way OOTP's options system works - NOT the way the MLB option system (which you described) works.

Ahh I see. Thats disappointing. Any particular reason why OOTP ignores minor league players that are out of options?

Actually, OOTP8 was fixed to use up options for every year a player is on the 40-man roster on Opening Day (like it should). However, if a player runs out of options that way, there's nothing to trigger him going on waivers except being brought up to the majors and being sent down again. That's still a problem.
