Size of league file after removing scouting

So the GUBA has recently undergone some significant changes, namely the removal of scouting and change from a 1-10 talent, 1-20 rating, POT/OVR system to a 1-5 talent, 1-10 rating system using stars instead of POT/OVR.

For some background: The GUBA is a 36 team league using full minors - Rookie/Short A/High A/AA/AAA/Majors - so we've got a pretty good amount of data in there, I'm sure.

Anyway, around the end of the 2011 season (our final season with scouts in use) the file size was around 65-70mb. Not horrible to upload, but it still took some time.

I didn't even bother to check, but I had figured that when we removed scouts we would see a much smaller file size, since there wouldn't be 6 scouts worth of data for 36 teams being included in the file anymore. Apparently that's not the case, though, because the file sizes haven't changed at all.

Is there something I can do that will let me get rid of the scouting information that's not being used anymore and make the file smaller?

Honestly, I doubt that is going to make much of a dent in file size. How many years in are you that you are seeing 70 MB files? And is this full file size, or just what you upload through the game?

5 years.

We actually found that our scouting.dat file was over 100mb uncompressed.

After creating a backup copy of the league, we removed the scouting.dat file and let OOTP recreate it without scouts.

League file size is now down to 17mb!

Yeah it was pretty shocking.

I guess with scouting turned off all the data was still there (6 scouts per major league team plus 1 per minor league team, 36 teams + full minors)
