Florida has a really strong young base. Hopefully they can keep their players and build a solid young team for several years.

" but instead of this year I mean last year when I got him in the 3rd or 4th round.

I got him in the 27th round of a keeper league two years ago. Loving that keeper. Course, I can only keep a player for 2 years so, he is gone after this year.

I might actually be able to purchase a Marlins jersey now, though I'm still worried they'll trade him in two years.

I wouldn't say 1 more year with 37.75m more is a bargain, unless you consider the Reyes' deal an insane bargain. We can also compare this extension to the Tulowitzki's recent contract. Ramirez's deal will be paying his MLB service year 4 to year 9 for 70m. Tulowitzki's deal will be paying his MLB service year 2 to year 7 for 31m ( year 8 option 15m). Even if Ramirez could be considered better than both Reyes and Tulowitzki, it's definitely not a bargain.

Ramirez was expected to get 8 million in arbitration this fall. Now, if you want to be conservative, you can say he gets 8, 10, 12 over his 3 years of arbitration eligibility. At which time, he then hits free agency and gets his 17-20 million a year (which he would get). That's 81-90 million right there.

It's not really a bargain considering every pre-free agency contracts are constructed similarly.
