New Mexico Baseball League

All the people doing the State League Dynasties inspired me to create this league. I am Starting it in 1950. The Major League consists of 2 Leagues (The Eastern League and Western League) each league has 2 divsions (Northern and Southern). Each Division has 4 teams for a total of 16 Major league teams. Each team also has a AAA minor league affiliate set up in the same format as the Major league. I also added a small 8 team Mexican league, cause I wanred some Mexican players to get filtered into the league over time, and it also gives me the opportunity to merge the two sometime down the road if I so desire. The Major league will play 154 games, the divsion winners from each league will then play each other in a 7 game league champioship series, the winner of each of those will then meet for the right to claim the Enchanted Cup. Should also mention it will be all fictional players

Here are the divsion set ups

Eastern League
North Eastern Division

Clovis Wildcats
Fort Sumner Outlaws
Portales Gunslingers
Tucumcari Roadrunners

South Eastern Division

Alamogordo Armadillos
Carlsbad Caverns
Hobbs Coyotes
Roswell Aliens

Shiprock Cowpokes (Gallup)

South Western Division (AAA)

Anthony Horizon (Socorro)
Deming Desert (Santa Fe)

Cuernavaca Jaguars
Merdia Jumping Beans

The Sombrero League

I just have all the teams, league rules, and finacials set up right now. Knuckler and illeracula are making me some super logos for it to look pretty. I plan on getting the inaugural draft done tonight or tomorrow then I will look over all the players ratings and give a run down of the top players and predictions for the first season. I think I am going to have a blast doing this and I hope someone else gets enjoyment from the updates and maybe even some teams get a few fans.

North Eastern Division

The North Eastern Divsion looks like it could turn out very close. The system I used to determine my predictions shows all teams not too far from one another Here's the write ups and predictions.

Clovis Wildcats

Predcited Division finish: 4th

The Wildcats look to be pretty average over all. They should hit less homeruns than any of the teams in the NED, and their power will be even more hindered by the fact that they play in one of the best pitcher parks in the entire league. Paul Bahr, and Jim Burnell will need to get good starts most every time as the other 2 starters are not too good, and the middle relief is quite lacking. Closer Donnie Rhone also looks to have a fairly tough year. At the top of the order first baseman Phil Thelon, and right fielder Tom Cromer should get on a good amount for the middle of the order where left fielder John Manning, and center fielder Bill Troxel will be in good shape to drive in alot of runs, but the rest of the order is very mediocre.

Best Pitchers:
Paul Bahr (9 stuff, 8 mov, 19 con)
Jim Burnell (11 stuff, 14 mov, 8 con)

Best Hitters:
John Manning (14 con, 17 gap, 14 pow)
Bill Troxel (14 con 19 gap 11 pow)

Fort Sumner Outlaws

Predicted Finish: 1st

The Outlaws should be in great shape if they get decent starting pitching that is able to hold leads till they can get to their bullpen which is the best in the divsion. The only issue is the middle of the road starting pitching. Closer William Foll is very good and should shut down games very well if the rest of the pitching staff can make it to him. Brent Sanders should provide a very good start every 4th day but the rest of the starting staff is very suspect. This should be a fairly good offensive team, every player has decent contact and gap ratings, not a whole lot of homerun pop here, but a couple guys should hit a fair amount led by left fielder Roger Truett. From 1 to 8 this lineup should provide plenty of runs for the starters to get to the bullpen.

Best Hitters:
Roger Truett (13 con 15 gap 17 pow)
Ernst Sipple (14 con 15 gap 12 pow)

Best Pitchers:
William Foll (10 stuff 16 mov 16 con)
Brent Sanders (14 stuff 17 mov 9 con)

Portales Gunslingers

Predicted finish: 3rd

Portales has the worst starting pitching in the divsion, but the best closer. If they can hold onto games to get to closer Bryant Hurst then they could do much better than the 3rd place prediction. This is possible as they have the best offense in the division, led by first baseman Mark Malone who could be one of the true stars of the league, but the starters are going to have their work cut out of them.

Best Pitchers:

Ken Mayfield (8 stuff 13 mov 18 con)
Bryant Hurst (13 stuff 16 mov 13 con)

Best Hitters:

Mark Malone (16 con 16 gap 17 pow)
Mike Renfro (13 con 8 gap 16 pow)

Tucumcari Roadrunners

Predicted finish: 2nd

The Roadrunners have the best starting pitching, the second best offense, but the worst bullpen in the divsion. Closer Fabian McPhee is adaquet but if the starters have to be pulled they will be in trouble as the middle relievers are lacking. Starters John Wilson and Phil Milton head this rotation and should do very well. it's also kind of ironic how the Roadrunners came out, by far, the fastest team in the divsion. The baserunning led by right fielder Newton Duncan (17 spd, 20 ste), and second baseman Dave Carver (14 spd 16 ste) should provide many MISP for short stop Mike Kirkwood, and center fielder Dave Jones to drive home.

Best Pitchers:

Phil Milton ( 10 stuff 15 mov 10 con)
John Wilson (7 stuff 13 mov 14 con)

Best Hitters:

Mike Kirkwood (17 con 14 gap 15 pow)
Dave Jones (12 con 12 gap 17 pow)

Should have the write up for the South Eastern Division later tonight or early tomorrow.

South Eastern Division

The South Eastern Division Has the highest rated team in the Eastern League (Carlsbad) and doesn't look to be as tight as the North Eastern divsion. Two of the Best three pitchers in the entire league are in this divsion as well.

Alamogordo Armadillos

Predicted finish: 2nd

The Armadillos easily have the best rotation in this division. Led by Dave Bacon who should be a front runner for the Enchanted Pitcher Award for the Eastern League. The bullpen however is just average and closer Stu Franklin had the worst ranking among closers in the division. The offense is pretty good and they should score a decent amount of runs led by shortstop Howard Livingston, and second baseman Maxwell Phelan

Best Pitchers:
Dave Bacon (13 stuff 15 mov 14 con)
Jonathan Wood (9 stuff 14 mov 13 con)

Best Hitters:
Maxwell Phelan (13 con 18 gap 15 pow)
Howard Livingston (13 con 15 gap 16 pow)

Carlsbad Caverns

Predicted finish: 1st

The only weakness for the Caverns is their middle relief. Closer Ernest Eberhardt is very good, and the 1, 2 puch in the rotation of Vern Ebner and Alberto Calderon can hang with most in the league. The offense has an excellent mix of speed, contact, and power led by center fielder Ron Thomas and first baseman Kevin "VooDoo" Duty

Best Pitchers:
Vern Ebner (7 stuff 11 mov 19 con)
Ernest Eberhardt (14 stuff 4 mov 18 con)

Best Hitters:
Ron Thomas (17 con 19 gap 16 pow)
Kevin Duty (15 con 14 gap 15 pow)

Hobbs Coyotes

Predicted finish: 4th

The Coyotes have a good pitching staff starter Adam Lester is very good and closer Deshawn Dirk is the best rated closer in the division, but the offense is easily rated the worst in the division, so scoring runs to get to Dirk may be an issue. Center fielder George Hoover, and third baseman Jerry Cardinale will surely do their best to prove this prediction wrong however.

Best Pitchers:
Deshawn Dirk (13 stuff 15 mov 10 con)
Adam Lester (13 stuff 12 mov 11 con)

Best Hitters:
George Hoover (17 con 14 gap 14 pow)
Jerry Cardinale (10 con 16 gap 14 pow)

Roswell Aliens

Predicted finish: 3rd

The Aliens have the best bullpen in the divsion led by closer Daniel Felton. The number one starter, Mike Crawford, is one of the best pitchers in the league, but from there the rotation falls off alot. if another starter can step up they could very well finish 2nd or even 1st. The offense is pretty well balanced from 1-8. The standouts are first baseman Dave Grantham and second baseman Vince Cuthbertson.

Best Pitchers:
Mike Crawford (18 stuff 13 mov 12 con)
Daniel Felton (7 stuff 20 mov 9 con)

Best Hitters:
Dave Grantham (13 con 14 gap 17 pow)
Vince Cuthbertson (17 con 16 gap 12 pow)

I have the ratings done for all the divsions, so will get to posting them a bit later today or tonight. Then I can get the simming going! I can hardly wait...I'm probably alot more excited about this than I should be but it just seems like alot of fun

North Western Division

The North Western Divsion is home to the two highest rated teams in the League The Albuquerque Rattlers, and the Gallup Mustangs. This should be a good race to see who can come out on top.

Albuquerque Rattlers
Predicted finish: 1st

The Rattlers have no real weakness and should be a force to be reckoned with all season long Top Starter Victor Alley should contend for awards and closer Eric Kinslow should be able to slam the door on opposing teams. The offense is very balanced led by center fielder Thurman Rabe and right fielder Mark Harris.

Top Pitchers:
Victor Alley (15 stuff 13 mov 12 con)
Eric Kinslow (11 stuff 14 mov 15 con)

Best Hitters:
Thurman Rabe (13 con 14 gap 13 pow)
Mark Harris (19 con 15 gap 12 pow)

Farmington Horned Toads
Predicted finish: 4th

The Horn Toads are easily the worst team on paper from the North West. Sarter Montel Madrid is clearly their best pitcher and should have a very good year, but the rest of the rotation is quite suspect. Closer John Elliott is pretty good, but rated well below the other closers in the division. The offense has some pop and has the highest overall power rating for the division, they are very slow and the contact is a bit low. Left fielder Emmitt Castleberry, and center fielder Howard Hanley lead the offense.

Best Pitchers:
Montel Madrid (14 stuff 14 mov 14 con)
John Elliott (11 stuff 15 mov 8 con)

Best Hitters:
Emmitt Castleberry (13 con 16 gap 17 pow)
Howard Hanley (16 con 20 gap 4 pow)

Gallup Mustangs
Predicted finish: 2nd

The Mustangs boast the higest ranking pitcher in the league, 1st pick over all Tom "Nutball" Horn, he anchors the best overall pitching staff in the division along with closer David Ozoa. Their pitching should be able to keep them in most every game they play. The offense lacks the over all power of others in the division, but they should get on base alot led by left fielder Dan Taylor and center fielder Mike Davidson, and with their pitching they shouldn't have to score lots of runs to win.

Best Pitchers:
Tom Horn (12 stuff 15 mov 19 con)
David Ozoa (17 stuff 12 mov 15 con)

Best Hitters:
Dan Taylor (12 con 18 gap 14 pow)
Mike Davidson (17 con 16 gap 12 pow)

Santa Fe Mountaineers
Predicted finish: 3rd

The Mountaineers boast the best overall bullpen in the division anchored by closer John Fielding, but they have the worst overall rotation. Number one starter Duane Dusek is going to have to be stellar every 4th day for them to contend, but if the other starters can hold a lead till it's time for Fielding then they could be a threat. The offense should hold it's own with the best contact and gap ratings in the division led by right fielder Will Carter and left fielder Oswaldo Ramirez.

Best Pitchers:
John Fielding (13 stuff 16 mov 13 con)
Duane Dusek (12 stuff 12 mov 16 con)

Best Hitters:
Will Carter (15 con 20 gap 14 pow)
Oswaldo Ramirez (14 con 16 gap 15 pow)

South Western Division

The weakest overall division in the league could prove to have the best race. I am very interested to see how this one turns out.

Belen Bulls
Predicted finish: 1st

Very bad pitching, very good offense, that's how to sum up the Bulls. They have the worst rotation in the division and the second worst bullpen in the entire league. Two semi bright spots for the pitching, starter Corey Decoste, and closer James James anchor this horrendous staff. Everything the pitching lacks the offense makes up for. They have the highest ranking gap and power ratings in the league, and they will need everything second baseman Li Wilcox and catcher Jerry Bedell have to help along the pitching.

Best pitchers:
Corey Decoste (8 stuff 10 mov 17 con)
James James (8 stuff 16 mov 9 con)

Best Hitters:
Li Wilcox (10con 19 gap 17 pow)
Jerry Bedell (13 con 17 gap 15 pow)

Las Cruces Aggies
Predicted finish: 2nd

The Aggies easily have the best rotation in the division, but the bullpen is very weak. Starters Frank Love and Bill Woodhouse are going to have to pitch late into games many nights to get past the offense of Belen. They also have a very good offense led by right fielder Jerry Hicks and first baseman Eloy Bustamente, so the showdowns between the Aggies and the Bulls should be fun to watch.

Best Pitchers:
Frank Love (13 stuff 12 mov 16 con)
Bill Woodhouse (14 stuff 13 mov 9 con)

Best Hitters:
Jerry Hicks (12 con 16 gap 14 pow)
Eloy Bustamente (17 con 13 gap 13 pow)

Silver City Miners
Predicted finish: 3rd

The miners are pretty mediocre over all...the best things they have going for them is their division high contact rating and bullpen (which in this division is not much to brag about). Starters John White and Bill Palmer will have to be much better than expected for the Miners to compete with Belen and Las Cruces. Silver City will have to score lots of runs and first baseman Paul Fritz, and right fielder Roger Peay can definately provide that. But the question is can they provide enough.

Best Pitchers:
John White (10 stuff 18 mov 10 con)
Bill Palmer (9 stuff 14 mov 10 con)

Best Hitters:
Paul Fritz (18 con 13 gap 19 pow)
Roger Peay (16 con 17 gap 18 pow)

Socorro Black Bears
Predicted finish: 4th

Not much can be said about the poor Black Bears. They have the worst overall rating in the league and will have to get much better than expected performances out of many players to contend for anything. Starters Chris Dorn and Enoch Wilson are the best pitchers. The offense has a bit of pop led by shortstop Jaivin Leon, and left fielder Johnny Hathorn but I seriously doubt it's enough to make much noise in the league.

Best Pitchers:
Chris Dorn (12 stuff 14 mov 13 con)
Enoch Wilson (7 stuff 13 mov 11 con)

Best Hitters:
Jaivin Leon (13 con 16 gap 13 pow)
Johnny Hathorn (14 con 15 gap 17 pow)

There's all the run downs and predictions. Will look over the prospects and make a write up for them tonight or tomorrow, then get to simming

The frist week of the season has come and gone and the excitement can be felt in the air. I won't get into tons of stats with just one week in the books but here are some of the highlights. Brian Stark of Santa Fe Named WL player of the week. Hobbs center fielder George Hoover is EL player of the week with an amazing 6 homeruns and 11 RBI.

Sante Fe and Silver City get off to the best starts with 6-2 records after one week. Now for the not so good news.

The Clovis Wildcats have been hit hard by the injury bug already, losing LF John Manning during spring training with torn ankle ligaments, he will most likely be lost for the entire season. Catcher Lorenzo Elola tore a groin muscle and will miss about 6 weeks, and first baseman Dave Martin tore a hip muscle and is expected to miss between 3-4 weeks.

Other major injuries:
Frot Sumner Outlaws center fielder Dan Westerfield is out for the season with a fractured skull. Mustangs SP Rick Townsley is out for the season after Herniating a disc in his back. Hobbs was also hit hard losing P Kurt Bloch and 3B Jerry Cardinale for the year both to ruptured discs in the back, and also lose P Lorenzo Montalgo for the year to a fractured elbow.

Las Cruces 1B Eloy Bustamente, out for 2 months with a herniated disc, and P Jon Leahy out for the year and maybe more with a fractured cheekbone.

Silver City lost center fielder Francisco Beltran for the year to a dislocated shoulder.

After week 1 the power rankings look like this

1. Silver City Miners
2. Santa Fe Mountaineers
3. Carlsbad Caverns
4. Roswell Aliens
5. Hobbs Coyotes
6. Belen Bulls
7. Tucumcari Roadrunners
8. Las Cruces Aggies
9. Gallup Mustangs
10. Clovis Wildcats
11. Portales Gunslingers
12. Albuquerque Rattlers
13. Alamogordo Armadillos
14. Fort Sumner Outlaws
15. Farmington Horn Toads
16. Socorro Black Bears

It was great to get things underway, another update after I sim the next week, in a day or so.

Carlsbad has jumped out to the best record in the league largely due to the strong start of Kevin Duty. He is hitting .403 with 8 homers and 35 RBI on the young season. Starter Vern Ebner is doing his part from the mound with 6-2 record, a 3.63 ERA and 29 K's.

Center fielder Gorege Hoover of the Hobbs Coyotes pulled in the first ever EL Hitter of the month award. He dazzled his home crowd and road fans as well, hitting a blistering .444 with a .519 OBP, and .832 SLG. He amassed 10 homers 25 RBI and 25 runs scored.

Adam Lester, also from Hobbs, wins the first EL pitcher of the month. He compiled a 6-0 record in 7 starts with a 2.13 ERA and 54 K's in 55 innings. If the Hobbs players keep playing like this next month we may very well see them atop the EL South instead of 1 game back.

May 16th, 1950 Rookie Draft pool revealed

The middle of May is the time when we all look to see who our favorite teams put on the amature draft board. The following is a list of the top 5 hitting and pitching prospects from this years pool.

Hitting Prospects

1. Vincente "Big Time" Ruvalcubu
This 21 year old first baseman from Spoakane Washington could turn out to be a very consistant homerun and average threat every year. He doesn't have the best eye but will also not strike out an over abundance of times. He is also impeccable in the field. No team would go wrong by getting this guy early on

2. Ricardo Guevara
This 20 year old center fielder from Arvada Colorado should prove to be one of the better contact hitters to come out of this draft. While not as powerful as Ruvalcubu he still shows the potential to belt out 20 or so HR's a year, and can also steal a good amount of bases. He needs a little work on his fielding as this seems to be his biggest weakness.

3. Dave Palmer
22 year old right fielder Dave Palmer from Bakersfield California is probably the closest to being ready for the Majors in this draft class. His potential is not as high as the others mentioned but he may be able to make a bit of an impact right away.

4. Adelardo Bibian
17 year old catcher Bibian could very well be a stand out backstop for a long long time. While he has below average power, his plate discipline, and contact potential, along with a rifle for an arm behind the plate are great reasons for many scouts to drool over this youngster from Las Flores California

5. Nick Coleman
This 17 year old from Seattle has nearly unlimited potential. He only has average power but makes up for it with uncanny contact ability and an outstanding ability to not strike out. He is also an outstanding first baseman and teams will not be disappointed with his fielding prowess.

Pitching Prospects

1. Tim "Dizzy" Wainscott
Wainscott a 20 year old closer from Merced California has the potential to be a very dominant closer for the lucky team that gets him. His 92 mile an hour heater combines with a good change up and wicked slider to give him the best stuff in this draft.

2. Pat "Mudcat" Brown
This draft lacks a bit in starters, but the team who picks Pat should not be disappointed. The 17 year old from North Highlands California should pan out as a very good #1 or 2 starter after a few years in the minors.

3. Bradley Youngs
Bradley, 21 from Oxnard California is the best middle reliever in the draft. He shouldn't need as much time in the minors to harness his outstanding potential, and once he gets to the big leagues he should definately be dominate in his roll.

4. Trenton Staples
This 22 year old middle reliever from Glendale Arizona will be a solid choice for any team needing middle relief for years to come. his stuff is as good as any we have in this draft.

5. Gordon "Turbo" Kline
This 22 year old from Rancho Santa Margarita California throws hard as his nickname implies. His mid 90's fastball should baffle hitters for many years once he hones his skills.

It appears I lost all the data to my league somehow I have all the logos still and will be starting it again, Not sure if I'll be making posts or just using it for my own fun. I have alot more stuff on my plate now than I did when I originally planned to post every month. I'll see how it goes oncve I get it all set up again. Thanks again to all those who read the little I had going.

That's too bad Brife, hope you hop back on the saddle and give it another go. I'll be rooting for Hobbs if it does get back started.

Hope you were having fun with it, I know I'm having a real good time with my M-O League when I have the time to play with it.

In the South East The Caverns had an unbelieveable month going an impressive 20-9 pulling 8 games ahead of the 2nd place Roswell Aliens. Led by 3rd baseman Doug Seamon who tore up opposing pitchers in the month hitting at a .398 clip with 7 homers and 31 RBI earning him the Batter of the month award for May.

Pitcher of the month went to Johnathan Wood of Alamogordo. He posted a 5-1 record for the month with a 3.54 ERA and 43 K's in 53.1 IP.

The Rattlers are the story of the month for the North West Division. They gained 4 games on the Gallup Mustangs to catch them in the standings. Led by SP Victor Alley who went 5-1 with a 2.22 ERA and only allowing 40 hits in his 56.1 IP during the month. His performance was good enough to earn him Pithcer of the Month for the WL.

The Bulls also deserve recognition for thier accomplishments in the South West. They came from being 2 games back of the Las Cruces Aggies to end up 3 games ahead of them to start June.

Right Fielder Scott Cundiff of the Farmington Horned Toads claimed Batter of the Month honors for May in the WL. He had a .442 AVG, with 15 HR's and 35 RBI.

Bad news out of Silver City. Star First Baseman, and the League Home Run leader, Paul Fritz, strained a back muscle and will miss 6-7 weeks. Wil Plowman will be filling in for Fritz, but it is doubtful he can fill the void left by Fritz.

Now for the Statistical leaders for each league
