And yes, the college rating is done differently. Not sure how, though.

If you throw an incompletion on every pass you would have a rating of 39.6 or something very close to that.

Actually ronsantohof it'd be a -295.83 not getting into the capped stuff.

A = -1.5
B = -0.75
C = 0
D = -15.5

NFL Quarterback Rating Formula
(National Football League)
a = (((Comp/Att) * 100) -30) / 20
b = ((TDs/Att) * 100) / 5
c = (9.5 - ((Int/Att) * 100)) / 4
d = ((Yards/Att) - 3) / 4

a, b, c and d can not be greater than 2.375 or less than zero.

QB Rating = (a + b + c + d) / .06

AFL Quarterback Rating Formula
(Arena Football League)
a = (((Comp/Att) * 100) -30) / 20
b = ((TDs/Att) *100) / (20/3)
c = (9.5 - ((Int/Att) * 100)) / 4
d = ((Yards/Att) - 3) / 4

a, b, c and d can not be greater than 2.375 or less than zero.

QB Rating = (a + b + c + d) / .06

NCAA Quarterback Rating Formula
(National Collegiate Athletic League)
a = (Comp/Att) * 100
b = (TDs/Att) * 100
c = (Int/Att) * 100
d = Yards/Att

QB Rating = a+(3.3*b)-(2*c)+(8.4*d)

Check out this link. www.primecomputing.com/javaqbr1.htm

Put in any numbers and it will compute the quarterback ratings for you with both NFL and NCAA ratings.

If football fans could accept this, baseball fans should be able to embrace RC too.

How many football fans look at QB Rating first, though?

I see where you are coming from here, but it's probably empty hope.

RC actually contributes to how many games you win/lose.

QB Rating is useless. Then again most football stats are useless because of the number of dependencies involved.

A very good stat to look at is a team's defensive quarterback rating. The lower the rating, the better the defense does against the pass. Usually the better teams in this stat make the playoffs. I believe last year Tampa Bay had the best rating. The most important aspects of this rating is touchdowns and interceptions. If the defense get more interceptions than TD's allowed, the team will be just fine. I haven't checked, but I'm sure the Bucs aren't leading the league this year.

And that would make the case of promoting RCs even better. RC formula might not be easy for the general public, but its idea is simple. It's just runs, the most basic stat in baseball, and it looks like RBI and R.

Since people are now familiar with OBP and OPS, RC could be the next one.
