OOTP8 New York Mets 2007 Dynasty

Hey all, this is my first attempt at a dynasty. Using OOTP8 with the standard Major League rosters that come with it. Hope you enjoy it.

Ring, Ring, Ring I awoke at 6:45am to a ringing phone. "Who the hell is calling me at this hour on New Years Day? Someone better be dead or in jail," I thought to myself.
Ring, Ring, Ring "Hello," I said as I answered the phone groggily.
"Good morning, is this Mr. Philipp?," the voice on the other end said.
"Yes it is, who the hell is this?," I replied.
"This is Fred Wilpon, CEO of the New York Mets. How are you this morning?," he said.
"Well Mr. Wilpon, I'm kinda hung over this morning, seeing as how it is New Years Day and I was out with friends last night. Anyway, what is the CEO of the Mets doing calling me?," I asked.
"Well, we fired Omar this morning, just wasn't working out the way we wanted it to, and we got your name from our new hitting coach, maybe you know him?," he said.
"Last I heard, I didn't know anyone on your staff personally."
"Well, he knows you, after all, you are family. Does the name Mickey Hatcher ring a bell?"
"Your kidding right? Mickey, my cousin, remembers me? I haven't talked to him in 4 or 5 years. But that still doesn't answer my question of why you are calling me"
"I guess it is a little too early for you today to put two-and-two together, so I'll just come out and tell you. We have decided that we want to offer you the GM position for the New York Mets. What do you say?"
Holy crap, this is a dream come true, but I can't let him know this, "Hmmm...I'll have to think about it....O.K., I'll take the job, but on one condition."
"Ohhhh," he replied sarcastically," you want one condition now. O.K. big guy, let's hear it"
"I get total control of the team. meaning I decide what people to keep, trade away, trade for, sign, etc."
"That's doable," he said, " as long as we stay within budget. Meet me at the park at noon today for the press conference. And welcome aboard"
"Thanks, see you at noon."

The afternoon press conference was a zoo. I was up on the stage with Wilpon, Randolph, Peterson, and of course, my cousin, Mickey. The NY press was trying to figure out two things: 1) Why Minaya was fired after a couple of good seasons, 2) How the Mets could hire a 38 year old nobody, as far as Major League baseball was concerned.

"Alright folks," said Mr. Wilpon, " we will take a few questions now."

A well dressed woman from the New York Post stood and asked,"Mr. Philipp, what makes you think that you are qualified to be the GM of the New York Mets?"

"Well, I have been playing ball most of my life, and have been a Mets fan just as long. I have a great knowledge of how the game is played and how the business should be run. All I hope for is that any of the moves that myself and my staff make, only help the club become more successful."

The press conference ended around 1:30pm with the press satisfied that Fred Wilpon made a good choice in Minaya's replacement, hopefully I won't disappoint them, or Mr. Wilpon.

Today the new GM of the Mets announced a blockbuster trade with the Chicago Cubs. The New York Mets sent Carlos Delgado to the Cubs and in return recieve Alfonso Soriano, Felix Unknown, and Eric Patterson. Felix will start the year in AAA and play RF. Patterson will most likely start in AA ball and be a utility INF.

The Mets also traded elder statesman Moises Alou to the Dodgers for starting pitcher Brad Penny. Penny will help solidify an already good pitching staff.

And the third trade of the day for Mr. Philipp saw Chan Ho Park going to the White Sox in exchange for John Danks and Jerry Ownes, both will start the year in AAA.

When asked about the sudden and abrupt movement of players, Keith responded by saying, " I addressed some issue we had last season and hopefully these move work out for the best."

Another big trading day for Keith and the Mets. Today saw 40 year old Tom Glavine get shipped off to Detroit for youngsters Zach Miner(24), Eulogio De la Cruz(22) and Dallas Trahern(21). All three are pitchers who will most likely start in AAA, but Miner may get a call up if one the parent club pitchers gets injured.

Aaron Sele also got sent packing today. He ended up in the Angels organization. In return, the Mets get AAA pitcher Phil Seibel.

And the big deals just keep rolling in here in NY. This new GM is not afraid to pull the trigger on trades involving big name players, and todays deal is just another example.

Fan favorite and all around good player, Carlos Beltran, has finished his time in a Mets uniform when he got traded to the Detroit Tigers. Carlos was somber when he was interviewed while cleaning out his locker. "I don't understand why this trade was made, I thought I was going to be here for the remainder of my career, but, that's the way the ball bounces I guess. The good thing is, I'll be join Tom (Glavine) again for this season." The Mets receive Magglio Ordonez and Gorkys Hernandez, a 19 year old pitcher.

"I feel that we need to make some changes to this club, we have a new park opening up in '09 and I want to try and get some people in here that will fit with the park," stated New York GM Keith Philipp, " I hope the fans understand that we are trying to build a team that will not only compete now, but will be able to compete for a number of years to come."

Today saw the return of one of the ALL-TIME favorite Mets players.....Mike Piazza. The Mets sent Shawn Green to Oakland to get Piazza back. Also coming to the Mets in the trade was Shawn Kohn, a 26 year old minor league pitcher.

With the return of Mike Piazza, the catching corp becomes mighty crowded, so today, Paul LoDuca was sent back to the Marlins for second baseman Dan Uggla. This also freed up Keith to send Jose Valentin to the Nationals for OF Austin Kearns, 18 year old minor league OF Christopher Marrero, and 20 year old minor league pitcher Desmond Jones.

And the revolving door continues to turn under the watchful eye of new GM Keith Philipp. Today saw Endy Chavez going out and Scott Spiezio coming in from the Cards. This move shores up the 1B position as far as the defensive side goes, but Spiezio is not the offensive terror that Delgado was, let's wait and see how this turns out.

"The New York Mets are proud to announce today, the signing of one of the greatest pitchers to ever put on a uniform," GM Keith Philipp said at the press conference. "We would all like to welcome back to the Big Apple....Roger Clemens."

And with that FA signing, the Mets just got a boost to the top of the NL as far as their pitching staff goes. Let's hope the hitting can match it.

Also today, "El Duque" was traded to the Indians for C Kelly Shoppach, P Rafael Perez, and P Scott Lewis. This move appears to one made to make room for "The Rocket". First baseman Andy Tracy was also sent to Cleveland in the deal.

O.K......I simmed through spring training....Mets finished 22-2, by far the best in the NL. Will start the season and give up dates every few games. Thanks to all that have been reading.

Kind of a ridiculous amount of roster moves, but you certainly have a good team now.
