Replay - Minors Question

I am running a replay of MLB starting in 1901 and I have a question about the minor leagues. I know that the bulk of minor league affiliation with MLB didn't take place until the 1930's ,my question is how do I handle this? Do I

1) Create minor leagues with no affiliates until they do affiliate with an MLB Team?

2) Keep the game as is with Reserve rosters until they affiliation begins

I guess that before any of this I need to ask if by clicking the automatically expand league button in the setup, does this include minors and if a minor league team has no affiliate will they still pick up players or have Joe Unkown play every position.

Clear as mud right?! Thanks for your insights!

OOTP does not do historical minors at all.

Each ML team is given a set of minor league affiliates by default and they are added to on league expansion.

If you wish non-affiliated minors you need to set this up by hand. All players tend to stick with their non-affiliated teams and do not generally move to the majors in my experience.
