Ver 8 vs Ver 9

After suffering through Mogul the last year or so I tried the ver 8 demo and found it much improved over ver 2006. So I'm seriously thinking about coming back to ootp and buying a game. But I'm on a limited income so I'm wondering if it's better to wait for ver 9. Ver 8 is very good and I can't think of much if anything ver 9 could do to make it better. (Although there were a couple of bugs.) So I'm wondering what ver 9 will have to make it better to wait. Anybody know the differences? Thanks.

There havn't been any announcements of Ver 9 features that I am aware of so I don't think anyone can give you much of a comparison at this point.

8 is very affordable.

Isn't ver 8 $35? I didn't buy 2007 for any discount but did buy 2006.

I don't recall if there was a discount for owners of 2006 as well.

What's in version 8 that's not in version 7? I usually wait two versions before buying the next. Adding just a little bit just doesn't warrant another purchase out of me since I play solo anyways and version 7 has really been great. So, what does v8 offer that makes it really worth even the $20 bucks?

In your case, nothing. In your scenario, don't buy it unless you are making a support statement. I think it would be very reasonable to sit on your wallet in this case.

How limited of an income? If $30 is a struggle to come up each month, wait for OOTP 9. If you can come up with $30 in 2 weeks, pick them both up.

My humble opinion --

Version 2007 versus Version 8 -- generally, not worth the cost except, as pointed out, to show support for the franchise, and then very much worth the cost.

Version 8 versus Version 9 -- although it's only February, if you're looking to save some $$ and are willing to wait, it isn't that long before we should see Version 9 -- 2 to 3 months, I suspect. If you're only going to buy one version, I'd hold off and wait for the newest, but if you're itching to play now, at $20, OOTP 8 is a steal. I don't suspect there will be massive overhauls or upgrades in Version 9, although some little bugs and tweaks are likely to be worked out -- enough that I'd want the newest version, personally.

Although I have faith that v9 will be a great game, OOTP traditonally hasn't come out before May. Then with the inevitable Bug fixes and stuff, the last patch doesnt come out until August. I'd get v8 now and enjoy the solid game. That way you have something to play while v9 grows up.

OOTP 2007 came out in late March.

I would get V8 and enjoy it now.

Then when V9 comes out, get it, if it is an improvement.

If you use V8 until April or whenever V9 is released, you will have gotten your money's worth.

Yeah I could swear that most of the releases came out in march except when Markus was switching the code for the game.

What Eugene said.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

8 is the cheapest you will probably ever find an OOTP game when it is still considered new, so I would say worth it. One could make the argument that 9 can't be that far away, but I would still say a couple of months of 8 is worth it. I'm sure buying 8 would give you a discount on 9 anyway, that will probably make 8 quite cheap in the long run. Don't hold me to that though.

So are we to assume that nobody knows what's in version 9 this year? I'd like to know what's NEW. Also, nobody really said what was in version 8 either. What are we just supposed to toss $20 bucks to this guy every 6 months?? I'm probably going to pass on version 9 and wait until next YEAR as that will be two years since 2007 version was released. APBA used to try to gouge it's customers every year for $25 for a season disk and then every other year they came out with some tweak for ABPA for Windows that was another $40 dollar or so pop to ones wallet.

This guy needs to add animations to his game now, it's been a long enough wait and we need some good graphics like Front Page Sports Baseball with this stat engine. I'm bored with reading text commentary. Even APBA Baseball for Windows has voice commentary.

Personally, I couldn't care less about graphics, and sound in a text gmae bothers me.

My understanding is that we don't have any word yet on what's being worked on to add to v9. I'd be more than happy to cough up another $20-$30 sometime this summer even if nothing completely new was added and they just refined & improved all the existing features and functions. But that's just me.

What was in version 8 was pretty plainly spelled out...

It's Way Past Time For At Least 2D Game-play Management

As for Version 9 features, it's way past time for OOTP to add at least top-down 2D game-play action for the manager view such as the excellent WSM and other top sports management simulations. In fact, those others are moving towards 3D while we are still waiting for at least 2D manager game-play action for OOTP.

Apparently, there have been some promising hints regarding this recently, but how much longer will it be for OOTP to upgrade to the current sports management simulator level?
