Hello Everyone:)
Haven't been to the boards in sometime
However, I've still been playing OOTP4 as much as possible. I almost won my first world series, I have gotten very close. Those diamond earrings will be mine yet. I do have one question about the playoffs. My team has made it to the playoffs the last several years but what gives me trouble is who to bring up in the month of September. I just finally realized that I can have forty people on my roster the last month and my boyfriend has been no help in telling me who to add to it. He doesn't want to buy me those earrings I guess I don't want the minor league players to get adversely affected. Plus, I know that as soon as you promote someone you have to start paying them. Well I hope to be posting more in the next several months and I'm looking forward to the next version of OOTP and the new football game. Take care everyone

Welcome back.....good to see ya again.
You'll get that title... As far as who to bring up depends on a number of factors: -What "true" needs you have, I would try to fill those. -Could be a good idea to add a bit of depth to your bullpen. -Also a good idea to take into consideration where you are in the standings. -There maybe some guys who are "on the fence", not sure if they will ever "make it". This might be the time to bring them up especially if you're team is "out of the race". On top of all this, it is important to remember that when you bring a player up his "clock" starts ticking, counting down the time when you will have to offer him a major league contract.....so don't call up needlessly. Hope this helps...

How long does that clock tick before youy must offer a major league contract? I think I remember it being 3 seasons? Is that true, or did I make that up?

to clarify, i thought it was arbitrarily 4 or 5 and then did some research.
Players that were created by you, or real players like Texiera or whomever who have never had major league experience... it's 4 years. Guys coming out of the OOTP draft have 5 years. I'm not sure about the guys used with "fill minor leagues" but I think they're 5 too... not positive on that one though. It's a bit of a bug, but not one significant enough for anyone to really care. |

I've never called up enough to fill all 40 places. I watch my AAA team to see when their development is maxed. There seems to be a point, dependant on the AAA coach and the player, after which a AAAer will not develop any more without some time in the bigs. If he's left in AAA too long, he'll stagnate and never reach what I once thought was his true potential. These are the guys I'll bring up.
If I have a "minors maxed" player, I'll look to bring him up full time as soon as possible. Generally, I'll arrange a trade-deadline deal for a contract-year big leaguer I'm not going to resign (looking for A- or AA-ballers), begin starting my current bench player for that position, and promote someone to the big league bench. I'll also almost always bring up anyone I'm already paying. Yeah, the clock may be ticking, but if I've felt the need for them to be "up" before, they still need it. If they go all five years (for an established league) without landing a permentant spot on the majors' roster, they deserve to go into free agency. And to get paid the <$1M they're worth.

crackpott is correct.
4 years for those players already created when you loaded rosters (for example: Rolens). AND those created by you to fill rosters. 5 years for players after the first draft Katrina, i'm guessin you made a deal that if you won the World Series your b/f has to buy you a pair of earrings? If that's right, I would have asked for much more. Winning a championship is a big thing. Just ask my friends when they see me running around, pumping my fist in celebration! |
