Historic League in the Future

OK, I know you can't import Lahman stats beyond 2001.

But you CAN start a new association in 2002.

Sooooo... can you mix the two? Somehow have an historic league with stats up to 2001 but then start it in 2002 or later? Obviously the 2002 seaosn and beyond will not have any stats imported, but it would be better than nothing.

Does this make any sense? Perhaps I'd have to make the 2001 historic season and then somehow transfer these players to a 2002+ season?

You can create a league starting with the 2001 players(or an updated roster set) then import teams or players from a database, you can find how to do this here.

OK, so to be sure I'm understanding you, I could start a brand new league (with no players) with the start year being 2003, let's say.

I could then import all teams using the instructions linked above.

And then I could manually input the 2001 & 2002 stats just so my historical stats are complete. The players' ratings wouldn't be based on those 2001 & 2002 stats at all, but they could still show up for my viewing pleasure.

Am I on the mark here? By importing teams/players, will ALL the players' prior stats be carried over? Or will they only come over for a particular year?

No, you would have to start with a roster set(current rosters) so that you would have some stat history(you cannot input career stats in the game). Then if you wanted to import some players or teams you could do that.

OK, it appears that I will have to play around with this for a bit to understand it. I was pretty sure it was possible to do what I want to but you seem to be saying no (and I defer to your judgment). Perhaps I wasn't clear. I'll see what happens when I use your instructions above and try to accomplish what I want. Hopefully it'll work!

I thought you could import career stats into the game. And if we're talking about 2002 MLB stats, I thought there was a way I could manually enter it. I can't be the only one who tried this, right?

I was pretty sure I had read in some threads here and there that it was possible to have a league start in 2003 and when you looked at a player, you would get his real-life MLB stats through 2002, even if you had to input the final years yourself. Maybe it was one of those player editors or something that allowed you to input (admitedly, I have not looked at any utilities for this game).

The only way to have the actual 2002 stats show up in the game is to create a database containing the stats yourself, since currently one does not exist that I know of. You can have a league starting in 2003 but it will only have stats to 2001.

I'm sorry to keep pestering here. It's just that I'm stuck at work a lot more than I am at home and so I can't test a lot of this stuff myself...

I understand the current DB only goes to 2001 stats. I also understand I'd have to input my own 2002 stats. BUT, I thought I could NOT do that by adding 2002 stats to the Lahman DB because it wouldn't be read.

I guess now that it appears I can import 2001 MLB teams into a 2003 league, my Q revolves around how to get those 2002 stats into the players' histories in the game. In the previous post, you said I'd have to create a 2002 database myself (not a prob). But in a prior one you said you can't input career stats in the game, thus making be a tad confused.

Database=import NOT input. To input (the way I am using it) would be to open the game and using the player editor to input different data. You CANNOT do this within the game with stats, you CAN "IMPORT" seasons, team and players into the game via a database.

OK... that clears it up.

Ok, so I can't INPUT. I can IMPORT. Gotcha.

BUT, I thought I was limited to IMPORTING stats prior to 2000 or 2001. In other words, if I added 2002 stats to the Lahman DB, OOTP would only import stats prior to 2001. The 2002 stats would not be imported in.

I saw several posts about how you can't import past 2000 or 2001 using the Lahman DB. So I'm confused again (surprise!) since you said I could IMPORT 2002 stats.

Do they mean I couldn't make a historical league directly using 2002 stats but I could create a new association in 2003, then use your instructions above to bring in players with their full (through 2002) stats?

I rarely if ever do any importing so I am not certain, I have heard that there are problems w/ importing 2001+ so I would say it would not be possible till sometime in the future.
