Post Team Cash Maximum

Ok, I play solo and I see that my TCM is set to $100mil - default for the roster set I use.

Now, what do some of you 'solo' players use for TCM? I would like the league to be fairly even, but still the bigger teams who make money able to sign more free agents. I know the default is 10mil, which seems low to me... and 100mil seems to high for me (at 100 no team will ever make that, thus no team gets revenue sharing cash)

confused,

Todd

It depends...Do you want your league to mimic MLB in its current state? If so, set it to $100M and let the bigger market teams sign more free agents, etc. Having more cash frees allows a team to go in the red year for a few years with high salaries.

I am in two solo leagues and have 1 set at $100M and the bigger market teams seem to "dominate"

The other league is set at $30M (Why 30, I dunno ) and it seems to create a more level playing field.

Great, thanks for the help. I'm at a crossroads here, I guess I just want a middle ground. I don't want to exactly mimic the REAL MLB, but I don't want NY, ATL, etc. getting ALL the free agents.

30 sounds resonable to me and also help out the Expos and Marlins somewhat.

Thanks,

Todd

So if I set it at 30mil and my team has 15mil from last season and 20mil from this season, then 5mil would be put into a pool?

Also, I don't understand why there's a CASH box on the finance screen? Is that just free cash to spend?

Thanks,

Todd

I don't have the game opened up, but offhand I think you're talking about the little cash box on the main finance screen. You are able to change the amount of cash for the team by clicking on the "cash" button, and typing in a new amount.

Pertaining to your first question, I had a few leagues before set at $100M as well, but have since started some new leagues where it's at $20M (the original default I believe). This allows each team to be competive, and will usually make some teams that are dominate for a few years turn to a rebuilding process. It's just nice in my view to see teams start to migrate up the standing, then plummit right back down after a few years.

I think the cash is the team revenue minus the player expenses. Anything over the cash limit placed by the commisionner ($10 mill, $20 mill, etc.) is put into a pool. I know someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the way I understood it.

The excess is taken from each team. To the extent some teams qualify for revenue sharing, it comes from the total taken away. If there are funds left over, they disappear. Just think of them as dividends to the team owner to buy a new yacht or build a new condo for his mistress.

I find that 13 to 15 million will work nicely for aleague where you want some degree of parity. One word of warning. If one league in your association has the DH and the other doesn't, you might find that the DH teams will eventually have more cash flow problems as the AI seems to pay more for that extra outfielder or first baseman that can DH.

Thanks guys,

I think I will try 30mil this time and see how that does. I just wonder that if I used 100mil, how everything would turn out? No teams would get any help just like the real mlb? ... and how much help would they get with it at 30mil?

I wish Markus would go more in depth in the manual concerning finances and end of year stuff.

I've gone with $50 mil. with pretty good success. If you'd like you can take a look at the financial plan I use for my solo league at my web site. Click on the league link below and then click on 'Financial Plan.'

Thanks DT,

I like what I see, so I will use 50mil and see what happens. I would think that the big markets will still stay big, but hopefully some of the smaller markets will get a little cash to help them sign a FA if needed towards the end of the year.

50mil was too big so I lowered it back to 30mil. That seems pretty good so far.

You know it's neat to see teams sign other teams top prospects/players. Tim Hudson went to the Reds, Griffey went to the A's, etc.

I love this game!

I beat the Yankees 4 games to 2 in the World Series. Matt Morris was 5-0 in the Playoffs, Puljos was rookie of the year - 0.321 36hr 112rbi. Furcal had 70sb for me. (Morris cost me 15mil to resign!
