Who will manage the Mets next season?

Who do you think? I think that they only need to get someone who can encourage, and startegy isnt that important with the greats they got out there...

The mets need a tough guy like Dusty. We need a respected manager. There are plenty good guys we can hire. Mets got permission to speak to Pinella today. He wouldnt be bad.

Which greats do the Mets have? Piazza and Alomar both turn 34 next year, so I'd expect unless they make a big move they're going to lose more games than they did this year. Their outfield, the left side of their infield, and their pitching is horrible. You can't win games if you can't score or prevent more runs than your opponents, even if you are in the weakest division in baseball.

The mets dont have to many "greats" now but they will during the season. Alomar will come back or he will be traded. Piazza will continue to bat low but have good power numbers. I think Vaghun will do what he did the 2nd half of the 02 season which was very good stats. If they sign Alfonzo he will be great. Burnitz and Cedeno if they are not traded I strongly think they will come back.

This morning, Francesa on WFAN said Pinella is pretty much a done deal - and is going to happen.

You make it sound like turning 34 is a bad thing. Maybe in the NFL, yes, but 34 in the MLB is well within the "prime" playing age in MLB. So, what would you consider Bonds ? Washed up ?
What I'd give to be washed up and hit .370 in the MLB.
You are correct in the rest of your assumptions though. The Mets need a real OF or two and a real ace, at the very least, to have any kind of success next year.

Francesa, however, is a moron. This guy says so many things where the opposite happens, then he denies ever saying it. I can't even imagine what the Mariners are going to ask for Piniella as compensation. Rumor has it they want Alomar. if that happens, the Mets better make sure they resign Alfonzo quickly. Steinbrenner and Yankees' obsession with anything Mets related will lead them down the Alfonzo road as their third baseman for next year if the Mets don't keep him.

You are comparing a LF to a catcher and a second baseman. Not apples to apples.

Yeah, he's wrong sometimes, but it is easily the most enjoyable sports talk show on the radio. It's not even close. Well for me Kornheiser is close, but I'm sure I'm in the minority there, and that's not totally sports.

yeah, Francesa and Russo and a fun listen, so long as you don't take either of them too seriously. I actually like Greenberg & Golic on ESPN in the mornings. I don't take lunch at work anymore so I don't get to listen to Mike & the Dog anymore.
