Announcing: Trade Deadline 2008 Roster Set!

Hello - Long time lurker here. I've been working on an updated roster set for my personal use, but plan to share with the community. I have extensive history in modding for both High Heat and MVP baseball in the past. Just recently found OOTP (with v.8) and really enjoy the realism it provides. Take a look at what my set will have available:

This roster set is built for GM play, but is conducive to individual gameplay as well. It was created, from scratch utilizing the latest roster build from OOTP Developments as its base. None of the other great roster sets were "plagiarized".

The roster set included here contains the following:
1. All Major League players are on appropriate teams per mlb.com as of July 31.
2. All Minor League players are on appropriate teams per milb.com as of July 31.
3. All players on MLB rosters have updated headshots. These were gathered from mlb.com and include players having new caps/uni's following the trade deadline.
4. The majority of minor league players have updated headshots. Where action shots were all that could be found, pictures were eliminated (personal preference).
5. All players on 25-man roster have accurate salaries per Cot's website. 25-man roster is assigned, but 40-man is up to you.
6. All players have accurate profile data, including: jersey number, height, weight, nationality, country and hometown. Dominican purists rejoice! San Juan de Macorís, Baní and other cities are well represented. Canadians also rejoice! Your players are no longer deemed Americans (Gagne, Harden, Stairs, etc.).
7. I am a firm believer in the work Markus and team have done in ratings. However, some adjustments were made where they were grossly off - Dontrelle Willis is better than the game plays, and Jack Cust (while a personal favorite) is not near the player the game plays.
8. Prospects are updated to reflect Baseball America's 2008 Prospect Handbook.
9. Missing minor leaguers were added, but primarily at scrub status.
10. 2008 draftees now playing professional ball are included and rated accordingly.
11. Team names were updated where needed. We now have the Salt Lake Bees, Greenville Drive, Greeneville Astros, and Quad Cities River Bandits.

Some adjustments will be made to take in to consideration players that are still awaiting assignment post trading deadline deals. Mainly minor leaguers.

Rosters will be set to have Bud Selig as the Commissioner. You will make your own manager.

In the future, I may add real staffs. Problem I have with this is not that it's hard. Rather, that most of them get fired after the first season anyways.

One mod that I do use personally and would like to include are justafan's logo set. I find it to be most visibly appealing and the only complete set out there (Casper Ghosts are included!). I will include it within the pack if he has no concerns, but will remove from distribution per his request.
Plan is to have this available to everyone who wants it by mid-August. I do have a tested set of just major league players complete that I can share as desired.
Boogaloo.

wow awesome....am a long long time lurker also and it's nice to see these efforts....will be looking out for this one!

One questions for everyone - I like to play with the international teams - is there a logo set, uniforms, rosters for Japan, Korea, Taiwan etc that can be incorportated into a MLB set?

Thanks!

Sounds to me like you put a lot of work into this. I, for one, cannot wait until you release it. Many of us have been waiting for something like this since the one that is with the sim is not up to date and not very realistic.

That's what I love about this place. There is always someone who will put in the time to make the sim that much better.

Again, thank you and am really looking forward to its release. Keep us posted.

Now if we could do Future Transactions then like Joba could be put on the DL 8-6-08 like in Real Life or Ken Griffey Jr. to the White Sox 8-31-08 meaning he couldn't be traded or DFA or so on before that date maybe in a future Patch because the Game would need a config file to do it like in NHL Eastside Hockey Manager.
Cubby's Fan's Latest updated has a good Coach/Staff file for you to use?
Did you put like Gary Sheffield and Michael Owings on Waviers and the people who have already cleared Waviers and can be Traded to any team?
How about updated the stats to the day it comes out and also the start date be that day meaning it would be half season like the start date would be this weekend and go to the end of the season?
I would keep the Injured List up to date and like for Joba it would be more the 15 days you would have to count up intill this weekend.

How are you going to be doing the Injured List?
The Coaches/Staff file that comes with the game Rosters is Real people so you could copy it in to your League and do the updates.
Will Barry Bonds be on the the Free-Agent Market and so on be on Retired People in your League to make it funner?
What will be the start date?
Good to see an Update.

Small Update:

The set is coming along nicely, even though I was out on vacation the last few days. I'm still hoping for release this weekend.

To answer a few questions:

1. DL is kind of tricky in a set like this. You can go one of 3 ways: 1) ignore if completely, 2) use opening day DL, or 3) use current DL as of date. I chose option 3 simply because I felt it mapped well to what I was trying to accomplish in a fictional set. As such, Joba will be on the DL from day one; Griffey will be on the Sox from day one, etc.

2. Coaches MAY get updated as all of them are not accurate on all teams. I am still thinking about this as all my sims have shown nearly all the coaches getting canned in the first 2-3 years save me.

3. Barry himself has announced that he has NOT retired. As such, he is a free agent.

4. Start date will be the default - I believe it is 3/24/08.

Keep your eyes open this weekend!

Option 3 for the DL sounds ok to me.

Another update:

1. I'm continuing updates past the trade deadline. Moves like Dunn to the D-Backs, Byrd to the Red Sox, etc., are now included. This doesn't take a lot of time for me to punch through, so figured I would do it.

2. DL is going to be current status. This does mean that some players that you would want to have on your teams may be out of commission for up to the full season. If anyone feels strongly against this, I can set all DL personnel to 15 days irregardless. I'm ambivalent as the injuries come pretty fast and furious in game anyways.

3. Using ML headshots where available for minor leaguers. I had planned to go with all minor league headshots where I could, but this is kind of stupid and a lot of the minors took really amateur photos.

4. I've decided to go against my better wisdom and do some updates to the ratings. They are pretty funky for some players. I'm using baseball prospectus data for my comparables. I'll try not to funk things up too much.

Done through High A!

I am going to be starting a new season/franchise and was going to update the St Louis organization as realistic as possible. Sounds like I might have to wait for your mod.

thanks for the hard work.

Still working on the set. I didn't get as much accomplished this weekend as I thought I would - my wife had me going places every day/night....

I will plan on having this out next weekend. My apologies.

It's still in the works....

Hey Guys:

I appreciate the interest some have had in this project. Alas, my thoughts were more ambitious than my timetable allowed. I have quickly discovered that there's a lot that needs to be fixed in the game. This is by no means a knock on the OOTP team - I feel the infrastruture and schema underlying the program are sound. The problems lie mainly within the roster set. The lower you get in the levels, the fewer "real" players there are. I'm not talking about A/Rookie ball either.... From AAA on down, there's a lot of player creation that needs to happen.

I'm plugging through this and am currently working through the low-A system. I should then only have Rookie ball left. I have thought about leaving the rookie ranks blank, but I've already invested in to some player creation (don't ask me why, but GCL Braves are half done already). So I will continue on through GCL/AZL level.

One thing I was not expecting was the player ratings being significantly skewed. I believe the data was built off of 2007 performance only - helping some players, but killing a lot of others. Larger than that, I am finding many positional players that have only pitcher ratings, many pitchers with positional ratings (mostly as catchers, go figure), and many players with NO position ratings....

I will stop the update just prior to rosters expanding. However, I have captured all moves up to today and will do so up through the end of August. Kotsay is now on the BoSox - I even got Matt Stairs moving to the Phillies.

So hold on and look for this as soon as I can. I'm not gonna say another week again, because, frankly, I'm not sure how much longer it will take. I am nearing the burn-out state and am working on this in much smaller chunks than I did early on. However, I do have too much time invested in this to stop now.

All I will say is that this will be done.
