Orioles Magic
This thread will detail my attempts to restore the Orioles to the glory they enjoyed in the 70's. We'll see how long this project lasts... I will be playing with ratings off, except for stars, waivers off, Rule 5 off, coaches off and scouts off. I will play out each game but will sim the early innings of most games.

Starting Rotation
Erik Bedard 15-11 196.1 IP 3.76 ERA 171 K 69 BB Age: 27 Bedard is the ace of the staff. Watch out for the 27-year-old to build on last season's success and have a monster year. Daniel Cabrera 9-10 148 IP 4.74 ERA 157 K 104 BB Age: 25 Cabrera has an electric arm with more K's than innings pitched last season. He has a hard time locating his pitches however and that makes him the odds on favorite to lead the league in walks. Jaret Wright 11-7 140.1 IP 4.49 ERA 84 K 57 BB Age: 31 Wright was acquired from the Yankees after he didn't live up to expectations in New York. The veteran is not as old as you might think at 31 years of age and should be a reliable source of innings, even if he posts a 5.00 ERA. Steve Trachsel 15-8 164 IP 4.97 ERA 79 K 78 BB We're hoping for the best with Trachsel who had a pretty poor year in the weaker senior circuit last season outside of his win-loss record. 160 IP and a 5.00 ERA would be a success. 5th Starter TBA |

Starting Lineup
2B Brian Roberts .286/.347/.410/.757 10 HR 53 RBI 55 BB 36 SB 7 CS Age: 29 Roberts is locked in as the team's leadoff hitter. RF Nick Markakis .291/.351/.448/.799 16 HR 62 RBI 43 BB Age: 23 Markakis had an excellent rookie season at the tender age of 22, watch for him to grow and try and break the .850 OPS mark this season. SS Miguel Tejada .330/.379/.498/.878 24 HR 100 RBI 46 BB Age: 30 Tejada set the Orioles' all-time single season batting average record last season, beating out Ken Singleton's mark. His power numbers fell a bit, however and the team hopes he can have a more balanced attack this season. DH Aubrey Huff .267/.344/.469/.813 21 HR 66 RBI 50 BB Age: 30 Huff was signed this off-season to add some offensive depth to the Orioles. He will bat cleanup and will be counted on to produce as he is surrounded by the team's best hitters. C Ramon Hernandez .275/.343/.479/.822 23 HR 91 RBI 43 BB Age: 30 Hernandez, signed as a free agent before the 2006 season, had a monster season for the Orioles both behind the plate and in the batter's box. Hopefully, he can continue that success. DH Kevin Millar .277/.374/.437/.811 15 HR 64 RBI 59 BB Age: 35 Millar brought an excellent batting eye to the team, even if his power production was a bit low. We hope for more of the same in 2007. Now 35 years of age, Millar is at the end of his career. LF Jay Gibbons .277/.341/.458/.799 13 HR 46 RBI 32 BB Age: 29 Gibbons isn't a bad 7th place hitter. For the team to be successful, we will have to hope that he isn't asked to do more. 3B Melvin Mora .274/.342/.391 16 HR 83 RBI 54 BB Age: 34 Like Millar, Mora is at the end of his career. And like Gibbons, he's not bad for his position in the batting order. Once again, we will have to hope that he is not asked to do more. CF Corey Patterson .276/.314/.443/.757 16 HR 53 RBI 21 BB 45 SB 9 CS Age: 27 Patterson is all about speed and defense. He can hit for some power, too. But one cannot count on him to reach base on a regular basis.

The Orioles lose the opener, 5-3. Johan Santana pitched eight innings and struck out six. Joe Nathan earned the save for the Twins. Bedard went seven for the Orioles and was charged with four runs allowed after Jamie Walker allowed an inherited runner to score.

In the second game of the season, the Orioles earn their first win. Daniel Cabrera allowed just one run but only lasted 4.2 innings. Scott Williamson pitched 2.1 innings to earn the win in the 8-4 victory. Aubrey Huff and Kevin Millardid not homer. I inadvertently did not play out this game.

In our third game this season, the Orioles are once again victorious. This time it's a 10-6 win over the Twins. Jaret Wright pitched into the 7th inning and allowed just one earned run. Aubrey Huff, Melvin Mora and Kevin Millar homered.

The fourth game of the season was a heart breaker. The Orioles took an early 2-0 lead behind six scoreless innings from Steve Traschel. But the Yankees railed to tie and later take a 4-2 lead. Closer Chad Bradford was charged with all four runs in the loss.
