Post Alrighty, quick question about DirectX

I played STB this past year on DirectX 6.1, when it said the minimum requirement was v7. Everything except the Direct3D worked perfectly (Direct3D wasn't too much of a loss I guess). So my question is.....am I still going to be able to get by on the current version I have installed (6.1) again this year without having to download the newest version?

I can't imagine too many of the beta testers were running dx 6.1, but maybe I'm wrong.

IMO we are best off abandoning that sinking ship that is Off Topic to the rats infesting it and just starting a whole new Baseball Forum from scratch.

The system requirements state that you need DirectX7. Hope this helps You can download the newest DirectX from Microsoft, which I believe is 8.1.

Direct X is generally pretty stable, will make all graphical programs run better and is free so why wouldn't you want to upgrade it?

I thought I 'd check for you and found if you click on the link for Directx, in the system requirements section, it takes you right to the microsoft DirectX web page. How is that for ease of use

Seriously though....from what I read before, you have to go through quite a bit of stuff to get it downloaded and changed, and I'm not really looking forward to messing with the computer too much.

Being a computer consultant let me chime in again with some good news All you have to do is download the DirectX file which is an executable file. Once it's downloaded you just run the file and it will update your version of DirectX. Restart your computer and you are all done. Then it's OOTP4 all weekend...

I have Direct 8.0 and this issue was brought up on another post so I went to Microsoft and tried downloading 8.1... afterwards I clicked on the setup icon for 8.1 from my C drive and a prompt appeared that stated 8.1 cannot be installed on Win95, Win98, and WinME (I have ME)...I therefore concluded that 8.1 is strictly for WinXP... any thoughts?

It is a very easy upgrade - download, run, takes about three minutes and then reboot. that is it.

DirectX 8.1 works with Win 98,Me,2000, and Xp. So you should be fine Just make sure you download the right file. There is a separate file for windows 2000, that might have been your problem. Obviously you need to download the one for 98 and Me. Windows Xp comes with 8.1 so they are good to go. Here is the link for the DirectX page DirectX8.1

Hope this helps
