I live in AZ, and read in the local paper that apparently, Durazo has pitched a fit about playing OF, saying that he's "a first-baseman", so apparently the thought is that he'll be traded during the offseason...

The Red Sox will take him, what would it take?

Knowing Az's love for old players, the Dodgers would gladly trade Karros for Durazo. First base awaits you in LA

Durazo is better fitted for DH. At his absolute peak, he might approach the numbers of Edgar Martinez. I doubt Erubiel will keep trying to hit homeruns. His talent is hitting for average. However, unless he learns to stop fanning at junk low and away, he will remain a .260 hitter. He has a great eye, but he does not look confident nor aggressive.
D-Backs would not trade him for another 1B. They have too many "ok" ones already in Grace (1 more year), Colbrunn (possible FA) and AAA Lyle Overbay (good D, good hit, no power). I could see him going for an aged pitcher.

I heard on "Mike and Mike" in the morning on ESPN radio yesterday that it is true that Durazo refuses (can you believe that) to play the outfield. At a time when his team really needs him this behavior is a perfect example of the modern selfish player. While I know this behavior is not indicitive of all MLB players it is quite ridiculous. He should be blackballed by the owners and out of baseball in my opinion.

If you watched hiim for one inning in the outfield you might change you mind from having him blackballed to respecting his intelligence. Imagine Frank Thomas playing right field... with less range.
The D-Backs do need someone to step up. If he is to be put in the lineup it should be at first base. An outfield of Dellucci-Finley-McCracken makes more sense than one that includes Durazo. The only story I have seen that tells of Durazo "refusing" to play outfield was written by the The Arizona Republic's Pedro Gomez. This is the same writer that said we were wasting money by signing Randy Johnson at his age, trading too much away (Travis Lee, Omar Daal and Vincente Padilla) for Curt Schilling, and said Schilling was a selfish prima donna for pitching on 3-days rest in the World Series. Here is the quote from the article... Erubiel Durazo, who could blossom into a superstar or disappear altogether from the big-league landscape unless he starts seeing the bigger picture, has told the Diamondbacks he won't play right field, basically tying manager Bob Brenly's hands in the wake of Luis Gonzalez's season-ending injury. "If they had let me play some outfield from time to time during the season I'd feel more comfortable," Durazo said. "I've only been taught to be a first baseman." For two years they have been saying they would play Durazo in the outfield to see if he could do it. During minor league rehabs... he never played outfield. When he was sent down to the minors last season... he never played outfield. During his time in two years of the Mexican Winter league... he never played outfield. I shouldn't say never. I think he logged 7 or 8 games in right.... in two years. He has played two games in right this season, two in right last season. Watching him backpeddle on a routine flyball like a fallen busty blonde about to be hacked to pieces in the latest horror movie is enough for me to realize that he is, at best, a first baseman.

Guys have had careers ruined by losing their confidence when manager's play around with them too much and put them in a position they are doomed to fail att. I can't say I blame him for not wanting to play there but I am not sure I can respect, if this is true, his outright refusal to play there.

This is not the middle of the season....this is it...they need to win these games or go home. If he's asked to do something for the team because of an emergency...he should at least try. The team needs his bat now more than ever...not his whining.

If the team needs his bat, then maybe 1B (as I said before) is where they should put him. Crippling your rightfield (no range, no glove, no arm) to put a .260 hitter in the line-up is dumb. I'm sorry you feel he is whining. Batista is going to need all the Defense he can get.
Durazo is a .260 hitter with some pop. He is not going to single-handedly lead this team to victory (although I hope I am wrong). If your looking for total offense, then they should play Colbrunn at 3rd instead of Matt Williams, Durazo at first, and Mark Grace in rightfield. You could slide Matt Williams into either leftfield or SS if you are really Jonesing for power. Wow... doesn't that line-up look like a winner?

Red Blow...I understand where you're coming from and your lineup may be the better solution. But, a .260 slugger who gets hot could easily carry a team through a short series. 3 or 4 homeruns later and the D-Backs are advancing. Will it happen...who knows. Could it happen...maybe.

I really, really like Durazo. He has been my favorite since his debut. It's easy to support a guy that hit .400 in both AA and AAA. The team has never really backed him, though. When he came out of Spring Training leading both the Cactus league and the Citrus league (I think) in average and homers, it looked as though he had arrived. One injury later it's back to a three-man rotation (Durazo, Grace, Colbrunn). Very little the D-Backs have done for him has boosted what little confidence he has. Now, the talk is that Grace is going to stay on next year to groom Lyle Overbay for the firstbase job.
In my soul I know that we are going to trade him away and he will be another Edgar Martinez-type hitter.
