? for Cato

I am in the process of getting all of my HOB2 seasons done with your history program but have a question.

In 1917 I edited the names of the 2 players named George Burns to George J. Burns and George H. Burns. I assume they will now each show as 2 new players unless I edit the previous data in the access spreadsheet. So my question is what files do I need to edit in access? Will just editing the master table first names do the trick or is it even possible?

Thanks

These guys have stats prior to 1917? I'm going to assume they do.

The way the playerid is made is by taking up to 6 letters of the lastname, up to 6 letters of the firstname, and a random number between 100 and 999 generated from their birthday and player number. So, in 1916 their playerids would be 'burnsgeorgeXXX' and 'burnsgeorgeYYY'. Even if they have the same birthday, since they are distinct players in the game, they have distinct player numbers and XXX will not equal YYY.

Okay, so moving to 1917, the playerids will be the same because their last name, their first 6 letters of their first name, their birthdate, and their player number are the same.

So I think they will NOT show as 2 new players in the Master table. Since they are already in the Master table, their data will not get updated. So, the new initial will not be there. After importing 1917, you can open the Master table in the database and change their first names to add the initial.

Now, if their name had been Bob (or anything with less than 6 letters), the story would be different.

I think all that is right, but backup the database in case it's not!

Thanks, Cato. I was afraid I might have to do a lot of editing to the database.
