It might be crucial if the Red Sox sweep the Yanks... but I don't see that happening. Each team will gain a win in the series and nothing will really happen as each team is pretty close to a lock(Sox are) for the playoffs.

All Red Sox/Yankees games are crucial.

More of a statement series than anything but if the Yankees sweep, we're looking at a very different AL East that will be more than entertaining the rest of the way for sure. Crucial? I think there are plenty of Red Sox fans that feel they have to take two of three, not only to keep distance but as a late season statement that can linger into the post season.

The Yankees don't like the wild card. Di Maggio, Gehrig, Ruth, Reggie, and others, would be ashamed to take a Wild Card behind the Red Sox. Sure, they'll take it but I think they smell the top of the East and want it...badly.

If the Sox win one, the division is over. If the Sox win two, the division is very over. If the Sox win three, the Yankees are now in a little playoff jeapardy - but only if the Tigers win some games.

I'd love to screw 'em. Didn't work well last serries, though, and who knows if Manny will be back.

If the Yankees were able to bring the deficit back to 3 games or less, this series would have been crucial. But, with the way things stand now, the Yanks HAVE to sweep in order to have any shot at the division, and even then it's an outside shot.

The Yankees don't have control over the AL East crown. The Sox are firmly in control there. They do, however, have control over the Wildcard spot. So, that is where they should be focused.

My prediction for this series, Yanks take 2 out of 3. I think they lose the Beckett vs Wang game.

I think he means, don't get yourselves down on losing the division crown. Win as many games as possible and take the wild card race instead. Substitute a positive focus for a negative one.

As a Tiger fan also, this is a very crucial series for the Yankees. If they get swept and the Tigers sweep the Twins, the WC will be up for grabs.

The Tigers are more in control of their destiny, they face the Twins then have their most crucial series vs. the Indians. If we can gain some ground this weekend, we will have a much better chance to catch those pesky juns'.

This could turn into one hell of an exciting finish for the East and the Central if the cards fall right.

Yes, certainly, but they want to avoid the team getting down when it appears that despite winning as many games as possible, only a miracle finish on one side or a complete meltdown on the other is going to get them the division championship (of course, that would be great if it did happen so win every darned game you can!). Getting to the dance is the most important thing now. That wild card looks awfully good to us Yankee fans now, especially when we remember how we felt back in May. It would be best if the Yankees themselves feel the same way at this point.

Correct Thinking is that the Flatulent Sox are 8 games ahead of the Tigers for the wild card berth.
