Setting up to replay ONE season.
I'm not looking to begin a "career", I just want to run 1 season. What is the best way to set this up ?
When I am at the setup screen, I have some options for "Base POTENTIAL ratings on ..."; but none of these options are for just this year. I'm hoping, since it's a "potential ratings" that the current ratings aren't effected & the players will perform closely to what they did in that year. I'm looking for accurate current ratings & results on ONLY the season I am importing - Will that happen ? |

If you are using the lahman database you probably could make a copy and delete all records other than those for the year you want to import. This way the players will be rated for their career - which will import as the one and only year in the database!!!! Haven't tried this but it seems like it would work - in theory!! |

You'd base potential on career to date, I'd think. Since you don't know how they would improve in the future since it isn't going to happen, all you'd have is their previous track record to go off of.
Also, remember to shut off talent changes if you want accuracy and you may or may not want to figure out what to do for trades/injuries. |

League modifiers really need to be adjusted before replaying a single season. Here's some advice Garlon gave me for replaying a single historical season:
If you want to do a single-season replay with better results, import from the Lahman DB the year you want to simulate, then write down the league totals at the end of your simulation for AB, H, 2B, 3B, HR, BB, HBP, and K. What we now need to do is compare these simulated results on the first run through with the actual historical ratios of that season. For example, in 1987 the league hit .263 and let's say I ran a 1987 simualtion and the league hit .275. .267/.275 = .971. The default modifier for all DIPS categories is 1.000 when you start a league. When you start over and simulate the league a second time type in .971 for the Hits modifier. You have to do the same calculation for the ratios of 2B/AB, 3B/AB, HR/AB, BB/AB, HBP/AB, and K/AB. |

I suggested before that a single-season replay mode be built back into OOTP. We used to have this feature in OOTP6. Maybe we can bring back single-season replay mode for OOTP208?
The game would just need to re-set the league back to opening day after the season ended, and then calculate new modifiers based on the end of season results. This way, each subsequent time you replayed the season the closer you'd get to perfect league ratios. |

Then I guess this means the historical modifiers in the game are worthless. Isn't that the entire point of creating your league with that particular year's settings?

It's a problem ONLY for the initial season. If you're simming 10 or 20 or 100 years at a time, you probably won't even notice it. If you're trying to replay a single season, then obviously it becomes a bigger problem. I imagine Markus will implement a solution -- but probably not until next year.
