Banner/Forum Logos help

Hello to all,

Just wondering if there would be anyone who would be generous enough to create a Banner for my site and Forum banner as well.
The dimensions would be as follows:

Forum logo: 240 X 110 .GIF format
Main site banner: 635 X 150 JPEG format

I just got an account w/ Allsimbaseball and am trying to get it up and running with a nice logo. The name of the site is going to be:
Major League Baseball Downing League

It is a current historical league...so maybe something a little more modern, with a tinge of old school.
Here is the URL to my site just for colors and such.

I'm also a hugh Red Sox fan...just keeping that in mind for ideas.
Also, to all of you guys out there, what application do most of you use for art and design for stuff like this? A newbie to this stuff.

Even if you just tell me what kind of program you use.
Is it photoshop? Anything else?

What about something like this for the banner?

Santino, Great work! I definately like it. Would it be possible
instead of the green color make it black?

Sorry maybe a black outfit with yellow trim? Or maybe have the black only on the speakers?

So the three colors would be black, grey and yellow? No red?

Yes, Just like the site that I have (site is above).
Black, Yellow and Grey.

I've got three or four that I use - Illustrator/Photoshop; Corel Draw; Real Draw mainly
