American Gay going for 2nd Gold at Worlds

http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/tracka...ory?id=2994268

Quote:

OSAKA, Japan -- Some champions make the toughest challenge look easy. Count American Tyson Gay and Russian Yelena Isinbayeva among them.

Gay advanced his goal of a sprint double Tuesday by running with such power in the second-round heat of the 200 meters that he had time to look back at the opposition coming off the bend.

He still finished in 20.08 seconds, by far the best time of the day ahead of Jamaican Usain Bolt. His main rival, teammate Wallace Spearman, also advanced.

I wonder if Tyson found it awkward when he said, oh my dad, Enola, was here during the war.

Gay's main rival is Spearman? That should make for an interesting final.

I saw the title of this thread and thought "does it matter whether an athlete is straight or gay in determining how many medals they can go for?"

[history pedant hopefully]

I though Enola Gay was Commander Paul Tibbets' mother and that's why the plane was so named.

If Spearman gets a good start, Gay will have to come from behind.

...and he's a double gold medalist (with a third one on its way, unless the US team drops the baton in the 4x100m relay).

Hmm...

I'm behind Gay 100%?
I'm throwing everything I got into Gay?
It's impossible for me to catch Gay?
I can't keep up with the lightning-fast Gay?
He gets his speed from the Gay hand-pump?

I'll keep thinking.

I've been trying to think of tabloid headlines.

"Japan-sy"
"Gay lords it over the rest"

are the only ones that I could come up with. Disappointing.

Of course, the Guardian would have... "American sprinter wins double gold at World Championships"

and the Express would have... "New twist in Diana tunnel conspiracy"
