crashes after inaugural draft

We are playing the fully patched version of OOTP 2007 on an HP Media Center PC with Windows XP SP2, 2.13 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 gigs of Ram and a Radeon X1950 Pro video card.

While playing as manager in commissioner mode, the game crashes after the inaugural draft. After the draft, signing players, setting rosters and lineups and then attempting to go to the next day, the game automatically goes to the draft window. There are no players listed to be drafted and shows no rounds remaining. The draft log shows the names of all 200 rounds of players who had been drafted. A window pops up and says: The following event has not been finished yet: MLB Inaugural Draft. "You are now taken to the draft screen. Please use the continue draft button in order to return to the main draft window where you can draft players."

When I click on continue draft the game crashes. We have uninstalled and reinstalled (patches included), twice.

Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks.

Are you using a 2006 roster set? The common problems thread outlines the following fix:

"My 2006 Imported League (based on a roster set) crashes
Some of the roster sets from 2006 are corrupted and don't work right.

Do this to fix this issue:

1. Go to Game > Game Setup
2. Click on the League Setup tab, then Strategy tab
3. Enter 16000 as the league total for walks

This should fix the issue."

If that doesn't solve your problem, did you ever delete a league and then re-create it?

We created a standard league using fictional players. And we have deleted leagues and started over. Deleted and uninstalled/reinstalled everything..

Thanks for the reply. Anything else you can think of?

You deleted and recreated leagues in the same saved game, or you deleted a saved game and tried running a similar league in a separate saved game?

Can you repeat the problem if you quickly create a new league and sim through the inaugural draft to the day afterward?

We deleted and recreated leagues in the same saved game folder, and deleted a saved game and tried running a similar league in a separate saved game folder. And it crashed. We deleted the folders and made new ones and we deleted everything and uninstalled and reinstalled every thing and it still crashed.

And yes I can repeat the problem if I quickly create a new league and sim through the inaugural draft to the day afterward, or even do the draft manually.

Thanks for your reply.

This doesn't make much sense to me, to tell the truth. You can't get past the inaugural draft in any league you create? Have you ever been able to get past the inaugural draft when playing this game?

I haven't heard of anyone having any trouble like this when simply creating a league and starting to sim a few days. Are you doing anything else out of the ordinary during the league creation process? When you say "we", do you have multiple GMs active in one game? If so, does the problem go away if you use only one?

Doesn't make much sense to us either. lol By we I mean my son and I, there are no multiple GMs. We set up the game in the beginning. It has been the standard league with fictional players but we do things like change the team names to real team names, change the schedule around some, and have always played in commissoner mode. After doing those few things and going to the inaugural draft, it allows the draft but when we try to go to the next day after the draft, the game crashes. It has done it every time in every league, even after deleting everything, uninstalling and reinstalling. I would say we have tried 8 times and cannot get past the draft. Maybe we will try starting with a different league historical or something. I don't know.....

Changing the schedule around some, huh? What if you don't touch the schedule and sim past the inaugural draft? Any problems then?

I might try that but the only changes that we made were checking or unchecking the boxes provided like enabling/disabling interleague play or making a balanced schedule or changing the start date. Should those changes matter? I thought that's what those options were there for. But I may try like you said.

Please do. Please simply start up a new league without editing anything to see if that works without error. That way we can determine whether or not the issue has something to do with your settings.

My son imported the 1998 season using Lahman's data base. The only changes he made was to play in comissioner mode and make himself a gm. The game played fine until the first year player draft in June. He simmed the draft and the game crashed when he tried to go to the next day.

Maybe there's a permissions problem? The only thing I can think of that happens after a draft session is that OOTP tries to update the player history text files...

Or something wrong with the historical information?

Could you try creating a fictional league and autosimming for a season to determine if and when you have any trouble?

Started with a fictional league with no inaugural draft, no first year player draft, not in commissioner mode but as a gm of one team. Simmed through the year dealing only with personal messages. No problems at all (except the team finished 16 games out). Have not had time to continue simming through the next season but will try doing that. Thanks for the suggestion will see how it goes.

It sounds as if something in your historical setup is causing your problem, then. Could you re-download your Lahman database and follow the steps in the link below to create a historical league and let us know how it goes?

Hello,

Ok a new wrinkle. Although I have not had time to follow up on your suggestions yet, my son went ahead and played the game. He started a new standard league, with fictional players. He made all sorts of changes. Schedule, created a half dozen players, edited players abilities, added ballparks, logos, uniforms and ficticious faces. He omitted the inaugural draft and the first year player draft. The game apparently played great through the All Star game. He then noticed that in the pbp method, the scoreboard was essentially blank. He saved and closed down the game and found the thread to correct this and followed the steps to delete the skin file, while I was watching. He opened the game again to his saved game, it froze at the loading faces screen. Made it to 93%. Is this a new issue or do you think it's related to the old?

Any help?

How long was it stuck at 93%? It may have simply been very slow to load. Give it a little while, as deleting the skin.bin file will cause a significant delay.

I don't believe that that problem has anything to do with your original issue, no.

It was stuck on 93% for about 45 minutes before we gave up. We need to give it longer do you think? Thanks for your help...again.

Sley, regarding the second part of your problem, try shutting down OOTP, renaming the faces.dat file to faces.old, and reloading the league file again, and see if you get past the 93%.

I'm going to see what I can do about your other stuff too. Is there any way that you could post a copy of one of the league files that crashes?

There are instructions here on how to get us a league file.

Just wanted to let you know that I am away on business and the frustrations of the game :-) and will be until Sunday. I don't want you to think that I am being ungrateful for your help and not responding. Thanks.
