Some probable Operator Error Issues...
nevertheless, I still need help.
I downloaded and purchased the game and played for about an hour. I wanted to load a 2007 roster set so I went to Padresfan's site and down loaded the AirmenSmith rosterset which is supposed to be a 07 version of Cubbyfan's rosterset. I also was stupid and was browsing through the game options. I think I accidentally tinkered with the custom game path option. I tried to get it back to default and was unable. I have removed OOTP 2007 and reinstalled it about 4 times. Each time I get the invalid path message until I created the myootp folder, which I really don't understand. Why can't my path be: C:/programfiles/sportsinteractive/OOTP2007/data?? Now I have two paths, one goes to C:/myootp/data and one was installed as C:/programfiles/sportsinteractive/OOTP2007 Now I just can't find my MLB.lg file... I can't load it... says it's corrupt or the file path is wrong. Thanks. |

The User-customizable data is normally found in C:\Documents and Settings\[your username]\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007 - that's also where the saved_games folder should be by default. You're probably best off de-installing the game again; then delete your C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\OOTP folder, the C:/myootpdata folder, and the OOTP folder in Documents and Settings. That should get rid of all the OOTP traces on your system. (If you have your downloaded rosters/leagues in one of those folders, move them somewhere else first.) Then reinstall to the location where you want the core program files to be. The customizable files will again be installed to Documents and Settings, regardless of the path you set. If you want to move those files to a different folder (perhaps into the same location as the core files, or somewhere else), follow the instructions here. Edit: Misspelled the Documents and Settings location. Last edited by Zeyes; 06-18-2007 at 02:56 PM. |

Another stupid question... If I am downloading and purchasing the game NOW as in the last 3 days... Do I need to download the patch? Or is it in the game download?

I'm not totally sure, but I think the latest patch isn't included in the full installer yet. You can check that on the OOTP main screen; it should say Version 2.0.2.53 in the bottom-left corner with the most recent patch.

Re-installed and still getting userdata file not found. I can only close the game. Can I move everything into the program files/sportsinteractive/OOTP2007 folder from the folder in documents and settings?
Or do I have to move everything into a created myootp folder path... Last edited by XPPD1510; 06-18-2007 at 03:45 PM. |

Argh, I overlooked one more location that OOTP uses. Well, try this part of the instructions I linked above:
---------- - We need to tell OOTP to open the data from that folder. Open the Windows Start menu, click on "Run", enter %appdata%\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007\data\config and hit Enter. This should open a folder with some config files in it. - If there is a file called "paths" already there, open it with Notepad or another text editor. If there is no such file, right click in the folder, select "New --> Text Document." Call the file "paths" (with no .txt extension), and open it in Notepad. - In the first line, write "path_user_data" and hit enter, in the second line write the path like this one: C:\OOTP2007\data. So the file should look like this: path_user_data D:\MyOOTPData\data - Close and save it and restart OOTP ---------- But, since you just reinstalled, let's enter the data location in Documents and Settings instead, not what's in the example above. (Just copy and paste the exact path from an Explorer window.) That should hopefully get OOTP to locate the data. Alternatively, if that still doesn't work...deinstall again, and in addition to the folders before (whichever ones still remain), also delete the files in that folder that opens up when you execute step #1 above. Then reinstall. That will hopefully get OOTP to create a pointer to the correct location during the installation. Last edited by Zeyes; 06-18-2007 at 04:00 PM. |

I did the "run" technique again, but still get the userdata file cannot be found. Can I just create a path to one folder with ALL files in it? |

Ok, I put everything into a myootp folder from both the program files and documents and settings and tried to open the game... No Luck, a small gray box popped up saying the userdata file could not be found.
I reinstalled the game, selecting the repair option. this time the game opened and all appeared well. I tried to load a game and nothing was in the saved games folder. I went into myootp folder and moved the MLB.lg file from THAT saved games folder to the saved games folder in the docs and settings that was RE-installed with the repair option... I try to load a game... It's there! I click on it and see: "the loading of the database failed. It is either corrupt or a save-game from an old version." What to do???? I'll browse the board for something on this topic now. I know I have duplicate files now... I hope that doesn't present a problem as I get into the game... |

Can someone help me load this MLB roster set? I was also hoping for some assurance that the way I have this installed is not going to cause problems in the future.
Zeyes, Thanks for all your help. |

What do you mean by duplicate files? Moving system files (anything other than your league files) from location to location at will is going to undoubtedly mess up your game.
Maybe you'd be best to uninstall, reinstall, and place everything in its default location? Last edited by Nutlaw; 06-18-2007 at 07:56 PM. |

![]() At any rate, XPPD...you said you moved "the MLB.lg file"...did you mean a folder, or is it really just one file at the moment? In that case, it likely needs to be unzipped or something similar first. For what it's worth, you should be having a .lg folder that contains several .dat files in its main directory, plus other stuff in subfolders. Also, please check with the website you downloaded them from whether there are any installation instructions (or possibly there's a readme.txt file that came with the download). I've never looked at the rosters, but the one you're trying to use may be a 2006 league that needs to be imported into 2007, rather than loaded straight. Nutlaw, I have uninstalled and re-downloaded from the website at least 5 times, all met the same result. The game can't start because it can't find the userdata file. |

I have removed OOTP 2007. I am going to try to reinstall the game without downloading it again. I was hoping I could completely remove every OOTP 2007 file from this computer except the receipt.txt and then re-download and re-license. So far I have never been asked for payment or the license. Any advice would be appreciated.

OK!!! Removed and then re-installed 07. Starts up fine, so the "can't find the userdata file" problem seems to be solved.
I still cannot load Padrefan's MLB rosterset. The same error message comes up that I listed above. There is no readme.txt. Any more advice? |

Okay. First please try to create a fictional league, shut down the game, then open the game back up and try to load that league. If that works without issue, then we know that the problem is limited to the particular rosterset that you are trying to use, and not your saved games folder or anything of the like.

Now assuming that you could do the steps in the above post without trouble, we need to make sure that you have your league file in the correct place.
You left everything in its default location, right? Go to C:\Documents and Settings\(user name)\My Documents\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007\data\saved_games In there, you ought to see a .lg folder with the name of the fictional league that you just created. When you open that up, you should see a list of 17 or so .dat files and another 8 or so folders (ballcaps, import_export, jerseys, messages, news, page_links, settings, and temp). Now, does the Padrefan file have a .lg folder that contains a similar list of .dat files and folders? If so, you need to put it in the same saved_games folder that your fictional .lg folder is found in. |

The power was out all last night due to severe thunderstorms... I will attempt your instructions and post again. Thank you very much!
