My league is about to hit 1850 and I was looking to see what was going on with the game just prior to the The National Association forming in 1857 and I happened upon this excerpt:

In my own world, Alexander Cartwright has left the General Manager position of the New York Knickerbockers to become commissioner of the league. I have changed the name of my World Series from "The Pennant", which I have never been quite satisfied with, to the "Alexander Cartwright Cup".

In reality Cartwright left NY in 1849 to go explore the gold rush in California. Perhaps in my own world he's wealthy enough now as commissioner to have agents sent out there in his stead.
