Not sure where to put this post, but since everyone looks here...
I've posted several times asking for help on doing a YEAR-BY-YEAR historical sim. As Steve (Battists) has mentioned in other posts, the Lahman DB is full of "blank" data pre-1930... that said I really wanted to re-live the last 106 years of baseball by doing a YEAR-BY-YEAR sim so that I when I was looking through the history of the league there wouldn't be a bunch of "blank" data. However, today (FINALLY) with the help of BruceM and RchW and DougWyatt it was established that what I wanted to do could not be done. Being that the game only imports a player once from the DB... Anyhow, I digress... what I'm asking and I'm assuming there are several others out there that would love this too; implement a YEAR-BY-YEAR import feature. Thus allowing us to sim year by year to re-live the history of the MLB, while the game still handles all the other stuff automatically (e.g. league expansion, the financial aspect, adding minor leagues as they came into the league, etc.) My mouth waters at the thought of this, because its consumed me for the past 3 weeks as to why i couldn't do it. So, there ya have it... a year-by-year sim feature that would allow us to re-live (accurately) the entire history of baseball starting from 1901.

There should be a "sticky" thread for 2008 feature requests. If it's here, I haven't found it either.
The suggestion is good, and actually it goes along with a trend of requests that would give flexibility in loading league and player history. Ideally, in future versions you should be able to load league, team or player history, controlling both the scope of the load and the beginning and end point of the load. You should be able to import this whether at game creation or afterwards. Let me add another feature request as well: I'm 52, and after a heart attack my memory is not so good. I think it would be helpful to all, however, to have a "Notes" feature where you could enter notes to yourself for future actions, or just to log in your thinking at certain points. You could classify the notes by GM name (in case you have multiple manager identities), by team, by league, etc. This way you can study something and take notes. You might, for example, say "Concepcion is slumping badly. Give him another week to break out or else bench him." You could even set a reminder date so the game would send you the note as a message. In effect, this would be like "news" except user created and help with your management of your sim. Just to be clear, you should then be able to view each of your notes, filtered by category, just like you would your news. In fact, the whole thing could be incorporated into the news module.

![]() That said, I LOVE your idea as well! Additionally, I have several requests for how data is displayed (i.e. GUI) I'm willing to submit my visual ideas if necessary... Markus, Mark, Battists... thoughts?

I'd really like to code an OOTP Add-on that you'd run along with your game, and in a new window you could view Hot/Cold streaks,
I just need to learn a language that is powerful enough. |

I like that idea. What else should we add in to the "to track' list?

- Awards (MVP, Cy Young's, ROY, A/NLDC/WS MVP) - Agents (when this feature arrives) - Career statistical highlights (leading up to breaking a record, timeframe as to when a record will broken, when the record is broken) - Stadium stats (to track which stadium a player performs best/worst in; day/night) - Pitcher vs. Player/Player vs. Player GUI I REALLY want to see the way data and statistics are displayed CHANGED/Re-vamped (respectfully)... my BIGGEST complaint about this game is this! ![]() i'll post more as they come to me...

Set Players Postion to Utilty Player?
Outright used more on Good Players and Pitchers then the person is still owned by the team? Sending Players and Pitchers back to the Minors if they Minor League team is in the Playoffs? Offer Player to all teams then you can pick best Trade offer? Players and Pitchers with 10 or more years have the right to refuse to go to a team in Trade meaning they can pick which team or teams they would like to go to?

I can help with that, if the help is wanted... AND this is a wish list post, not a debate post. ![]()

I believe that mgom's post qualifies as a wish list, right?

The problem is that I know next to nothing about C++. I took a basic class on it in High School (that dealt with cin, cout, etc, not windows stuff), and that's pretty much it.

what we're asking for is not hard to code, it's just more "to do's" for him... but then again, he's got a great rep for responding in a positive way when it comes to our requests... he really does want to make us all happy, be it for business or personal benefit. anyhow... keep the requests coming... someone with "the POWER" will chime in eventually and respond.

The facegen feature this year really improved the game. I believe adding something similar graphically with stadiums would send people running to make a purchase.

Now that I have a little more time, I should flesh out the "Notes" idea I mentioned earlier.
1. The Notes would be intended primarily for use to help you manage the game. It could be incorporated into the News module. 2. The content of the notes would be user determined and very flexible. 3. Just like with the game recaps, you could have a title and a text body. 4. Each Note would have certain default assignable categories, like league, team, etc. It would also have a couple of custom user assignable categories. These categories would help you filter your notes to use them for specific purposes (e.g., you run multiple teams and want to look at just the notes for one team at a time, or, you make some notes for lineup management, others for roster management, and you want to filter for whichever activity you are engaged in.) 5. The Notes would have a creation date and an optional reminder date, so you could think of something you wanted to remember to do at a later date and be presented with it on that date. 6. Another idea I had was Note templates. The user could, for example, design checklists for certain tasks he wanted to do periodically. He could design a weekly or monthly roster review template that walked him through a process he could determine. He could show his pitching staff, including rotation and bullpen, and his lineup and bench, then a place for him to assign grades and comments for each player or position. Then he could have a record of his periodic assessments as the season progresses. This would help with his game management and his immersion. The possibilities are only limited by the creative imagination of the user.
