Not Responding
I just bought the game last night and I am having trouble with the game not responding at times. When I had been trying out the game for a few days it would hang up (Not Respond) a few times when I was simming games. Now when I sim games after buying it the game hangs up for 5 minutes at a time after I sim a day.
I have 1 Gig of memory and my machine is only a couple of years old. Any ideas on what could be causing this? Should I turn off my Anti-Virus (Mcaffee) and see if that stops the hang ups? Dubya |

You can try that. Some other things you can do to speed things up is to defrag your hard drive and turn off the Windows Indexing Service on the drive you're running it from.

How big is the league, how many games would it be simming per day?
Also what speed is your processor? I assume this is the first season of your league too? Could be so many teams playing that it's taking a while to do all it has to, could be too many teams for your processor to do quickly as we'd like, and it will slow more as you get play more and more seasons (processor thing again). For instance my old processor won't do anything within a reasonable time if I have more than just a standard MLB with 5 levels of minors... and it's quite slow after 25 seasons.

It has been reported that McAfee (and other anti-virus progs) can significantly hamper sim speed. The reason is because OOTP generates an enormous number of logfiles (game logs, boxscores, news articles, etc...) for any given day. Antivirus programs attempt to scan every new file that's created on the hard drive, so it goes through trying to catch and scan every logfile that OOTP is generating.

While all the above is good advice it doesnt answer the question of why OOTP needs max out a machine's RAM. This is the cause of the 'not responding' problem.

From other threads, it appears that ghost players will slow down sim time also. Do you have other programs running in the background while playing OOTP? If you go into task manager to the performance tab, what are your Commit Charge numbers?

I'd say the first things to try would be to make sure your anti-virus program and windows indexing ignore the \My Documents\Sports Interactive directory.
