From Last to First: Seattle Mariners

This is my page based on my team in the online league I'm currently in. I took over the team in 2006, one year after the league started. My team was 14 million over budget and had no prospects and was 23.5 games 1st place. Since them I've taken this team to 8 straight play-off's and 5 straight division titles.

Drafting:

2005 (3rd Overall): C Clyde "Craps" Moore- Although he lacked the power and speed you would like to see from a 3rd Overall pick, Moore was one of the best hitters in the game. Leading the league in OBP in 2008, Moore was Seattle's heart and soul for years to come.

2006 (19th Overall): SP John Winstead- Drafted hopefully to be the ace that would turn Seattle around, Winstead had incredible stuff but lacked the control and movement needed to be an ace. He never got his break and became a career minor league. He later retired after the 2019 season.

2007 (11th Overall): CP Clayton "The Conjurer" Reinhardt- Although drafting a closer in the first round never makes alot of sense, Seattle saw something special in Clayton. With amazing stuff Seattle thought he would make the perfect set-up to closer Brian Reed. Clayton set a Seattle record with 97 games appeared in his rookie season. He spent 6 years in Seattle before being lost to FA. He made a return to Seattle in 2019, but the return was short lived.

2008 (5th Overall): SP Alexander "Goldie" Fredericksen- Another great young starting pitching who never lived up to the hype. Alexander spent his whole career in Seattle in the minors, he was later traded, along with CF Andrew Camacho, to Kansas City for future Cy Young winner Tony Diz.

2009 (11th Overall): RF Ward Spellman- A power hitting OF Seattle needed to try to compeat in the West, Ward was the future. Slow development and several argument's with management made short work of Ward. He was traded to the Dodgers for SP Francisco Rosario. He later have a very successful career with the Dodgers winning 2 World Series titles.

2010 (18th Overall): CP Mitch "The Enforcer" Russell- Another amazing closer with untouchable stuff. Needed to replace Brian Reed, Mitch was hope for Seattle's bullpen. But Seattle saw a golden opportunity with Tampa and traded Mitch along with others for Cy Young canidate Ryan Hannaman. Mitch now has a career 5.65 ERA with Tampa Bay.

2011 (20th Overall): LF Jim "Grasshopper" Bishop- Speed. Power. Defense. Everthing Seattle could have wanted in an OFer. Although a slow developer, Seattle wasn't going to repeat the Spellman mistake and hopefully wait for Bishop to develop. After turning 25 and seeing no real signs of promise he was traded to Cincinnati for top SP spec Orlando Punal.

2012 (15th Overall): 1B Edward McCaleb- A contact hitting 1B Seattle saw little use for him. He was traded the same day of being drafted to Tampa Bay that brought 20 game winner Brett Myers into Seattle.

2013 (26th Overall): SP William Blakeslee- Another ace prospect out of college, William was Seattle's next hope for a young dominate pitcher. William never turned into anything. He averaged a 4.7 ERA in the minors. He sits there today trying to turn things around.

2014 (27th Overall): CF Pierre Armijo- The speedy Armijo was hopefully going to solidify Seattle's lead-off spot for years to come. A slow developer Seattle decieded to wait and see on Armijo. He got called up in his 2019 and had a .286 average. After the signing of Bryan Holderman Seattle had little use for Armijo. He was later traded to San Francisco for catcher Clayton Griffin.

2015 (27th Overall): 1B Donald Frank- Contact hitting firstbaseman with a great eye, Frank was hopefully going to be Seattle's new Clyde Moore. Although another slow developer, Frank is still in AAA but a September call up isn't to far off.

2016 (27th Overall): SP Ronald Rines- Traded to Baltimore for Starting pitcher Tim Stauffer.

2017 (26th Overall): CF Angel Garza- Another speedy lead-off type Seattle was hoping for the best when Garza was drafted but after several set backs Seattle was forced to trade him to Florida for RP Arthur Popovich.

2018 (24th Overall): RP Ira Deleon- Another pick traded to Baltimore for CF Alfred Joseph.

2019 (25th Overall): RP Vincente Basaldua- Pick trade to Pittsburgh that brought over Jose Diez and Samuel Fernandez.

2B Ronald Jorge has been signed to a contract of $10,000,000 per year, for 4 years

CF Bryan Holderman has been signed to a contract of $2,742,291 per year, for 4 years

A very busy off-season for the Mariners. Adding some youth at the starting pitching role with Svendsen and Rohr with help keep Seattle winning the West for years to come. Power from Tonn, Griffin, Gonzales, and Jorge should put Seattle in the Top 5 in Run's scored and HR's. Although the bullpen still remains a weak spot for Seattle, GM Hangman is confident it should be good enough to make a legitiment run at a World Series Title.

2020 Roster:

Infield
Cather:
Clayton Griffin - An amazing power hitter versus Right-Hand pitchers Griffin is sure to provide much needed power from behind the plate. Also with decent range at catcher he gives some of Seattle's younger pitchers peace at mind when throwing that nasty splitter. Griffin's arm could could called into question though.

Chao-Kuan Wu - A seaosn veteren, Wu gives Seattle a power hitting back-up to serve behind Griffin. With similar range and power numbers Seattl'es head coach doesn't have to think twice about giving Griffin a much needed day off.

First Base:
Basil Mora - Mora is a durable player who can play all over the field. Although he lacks the power of a tradition First Baseman, he gives Seattle someone who's averaged 102 runs over the past 5 years.

Second Base:
Bill "The Crow" Gonzalez - Signed last year to serve as a back-up to Jeff Dominguez, "The Crow" is looking to start at second for Seattle this year. Good contact and a great eye should see Gonzalez somewhere in the bottom of the order to hopfully get a walk or a single in order to keep a drive alive.

Adam Jones - Long time Seattle great, Jones is back for his 17th year with the Mariners. Although Seattle doesn't expect another 27 homerun season out of the aging Jones, he will still serve his part in backing-up "The Crow".

Shortstop:
Andre Harrold - Signed 3 years ago to back-up Adam Jones at short, Harrold hasn't seen much playing time, but this year looks to be different. Seattle is hoping he can return to his 300 avg and 100 run form from several years back.

Nate "White Lightning" Kuge - Signed for a huge 20 million contract the speedy, power hitting Kuge looked to be Seattle's answer for a power hitting infielder, but after suffering a torn rotator cuff in 2017, Kuge has been a shell of his former self. Seattle will use this former great as a back-up to Harrold.

Thirdbase:
Ronald Jorge - Signed this past off-season, Jorge gives Seattle a 30 homerun / 120 RBI threat in the middle of the line-up. Also with decent speed Jorge has averaged 120 runs over the past 5 seasons.

Outfield:

Rightfield:
Cipri "The Dragon" Gonzales - Came over in a trade from the National's, Gonzales should be a much welcomed power hitting outfielder the Mariner's sorely need. Seattle is looking to squeeze around 20 homeruns and 100 RBI's from Gonzales. Should sit well batting either 3rd or 5th.

Centerfield:
Judson "Deacon" Tonn - From Cleveland, Tonn looks be the center point of Seattle's new high-powered offense. With great speed and defense Seattle looks towards Tonn to be an MVP candiate at years end. Although a broken hand at the end of last year slowed Tonn some, Seattle expects to see 30 homeruns / 120 RBI's / 40 Stolen Bases out of Tonn.

Leftfield:
John "The Law" Paulk - Paulk has averaged 100 RBI's over the past 5 seasons and another 100 RBI season is what Seattle expects. With solid contact and almost never striking out ( 18 in 642 AB's last year) Paulk should find himself batting 2nd or 3rd in Seattl'es line-up.

Back-Up:
Mitch Einertson - Mr. Mariner himself. Spending the past 12 seasons leading the Mariners in hits and runs. After collecting his 2000th career hit last season, Einertson is going to be used primalry as a back-up this season.

Alfred Joseph - After batting an amazing .353 last season it's hard to place Joseph on the bench, but Seattle's outfield is to filled with younger and better hitters. Joseph should still see some decent playing time.
