Bo Knows Replays

A few years ago, I started up a Bo Jackson career what if/replay. I was limited in some ways by lack of dynasty experience and by OOTP 6.12
Now with OOTP 2007 I think I can re-do the dynasty in alot more detail and realisim.

Our dynasty begins in the year 1986
Bo Jackson, the greatest athlete to ever play baseball, has been drafted by the Kansas City Royals.
This will be a carrer replay of Jacksons carrer that asks the question...what would his carrer have looked like if he had never played football or suffered a debilitation career injury?

For those of you who do not know much about the man
Jackson was an icon around the turn of the decade where the 80s lead into the 90s
A two sport godlike man who had stellar graceful speed combined with raw power in everything he did.
He still holds most of the records at his HS in baseball in football.
The Yankees took him in the second round of the 1982 draft but Jackson decided to attend college instead
An Alabama native, Jackson choose Auburn University.
He tore up the baseball diamond at Auburn as well as the football field
In 1985 at a sport he considered a 'hobby' he won the Heismen Memorial Trophy
Jackson was taken first overall in the 1986 NFL draft by the Tampa Bay Bucs
He opted instead to forgo a football career and instead play baseball for the Kansas City Royals who drafted him.
That is where our baseball oddessy begins

Before I begin, I want to explain the league setup
The game is the real 1986 MLB
I have AAA and AA leagues as well which are fake teams with ghost players
I did this so that ML teams could have a place to store and develop players and have some sort of reserve
The league will expand automaticaly to make room for the Marlins/Rockies and Devil Rays/Snakes
1986 finances and league totals will be used and they will update themselves every year
Rookies will be real but will NOT go to their original teams, they will instead be drafted

I am also going to slightly increase Jacksons ratings to simulate him not playing football and instead concentrating on baseball

These are his real and protential ratings

Contact: 4/7
Gap: 4/7
Power: 4/10
Eye: 5/6

Speed is 7
Stealing ability is unchanged at 8

OF range is 8
OF arm is 10
Rating at LF is 10
CF is 5
RF is 10

Jackson will start out in AA Wichita

1986 Spring training in complete
In a suprise move the Royals broke camp and came back north with brand new draft choice 23 year old Bo Jackson
Jackson will probably see very limited playing time as a 5th OF when the starters and 4th OF is tired or if injuries occur.

The ultimate goal of this sim is to follow Jackson and hope that he will accomplish two purposes

1. Hit alot of HR
His milestones are 300, 400, 500, 600
Anything beyond that would be pretty incredible

2. Be inducted into the HOF as voted on by you the fans

April 1986

Jackson sees some significant playing time and makes the most out of it despite poor ratings.
Jackson sees most of his playing time vs LHP and destroys all that he sees
Against RHP in limited PA he does not fare so well...

Note that I am not going to do month by month stats but instead just update his yearly totals by month.
I am also going to use PA instead of AB

PA: 58
AVG: .315
OBP: .362
SLG: .407
H: 17
2B: 2
3B: 0
HR: 1
RBI: 9
R: 8
BB: 4
K: 12
OPS: .769
SB: 2
CS: 2

Jackson hit his very first HR against Boston on April 16th 1986
It came in the 5th inning and was of the 2 run varity
The pitcher was Bostons Al Nipper
It was a 446 foot blast which is a meaty first ever HR

The Royals sit 11-9 3.5 back from the powerful 1986 Oakland As

Nolan Ryan took NL POTM
Mark Langston took the AL honours

Your batters of the month are Buddy Bell in the NL and Mike Davis in the AL

Now to the offseason
Jackson will work on all aspects of his game and see if he can get the power stroke going
He will come back a 24 year old
He will need to get it going soon and get as many HR as he can now, in 5 years the power era will kick in and he will be in the prime of his carrer and his HR will leap up
He needs to get all he can now before adding onto them later

I hope someone out there is enjoying this
I sure am

The new OOTP is pretty good at historical stuff
Cant wait to see how automatic expansion works

My one mistake so far was turning on 'Recalculate ratings based on historical stats'

That really changed around Jacksons ratings as well as several other players
I am going to turn it on from now on and fix Jacksons ratings

The league will begin to look less and less like real life
But the alternative is no good for what im trying to do

Glad you enjoying this!

Some minor pre season and first month injuries have dimished Jacksons ratings.
As a result he has missed some time and had to fight a little for playing time.
Despite that he put together a very nice first month and looks to get back on track for the rest of the season.

PA: 44
AVG: .350
OBP: .386
SLG: .775
H: 14
2B: 1
3B: 2
HR: 4
RBI: 8
R: 11
BB: 3
K: 6
OPS: 1.161
SB: 1
CS: 1

The Royals jumped out to a outstanding 16-3 first month and lead the AL west by 4 games over Seattle

Dwight Gooden and Bret Saberhagen takes top pitcher of the month honours

Andre Dawson crushed 12 HR for the Pirates and won NL batter of the month
George Bell takes AL honours

A healthy Jackson has a very nice May and sees his ratings again increasing and back in his familiar starting OF role for the Royals

PA: 149

H: 40
2B: 7
3B: 4
HR: 9
RBI: 21
R: 30
BB: 9
K: 30
OPS: .930
SB: 3
CS: 2

KC is still playing good ball and has opened up a 6 game lead on Seattle and Texas

Rick Rhoden and Jose Guzman take top pitcher

Darryl Strawberry and Rickey Henderson take top hitter
