Thumbs up A Superb Game

I think OOTP 2007 is a blast! I am continually amazed at the depth of this game and the work by Markus in developing it.

In one game, we have an excellent simulation of baseball in-game play, superb statisical reporting, and the ability to act as a GM where we get to draft and trade baseball players as well as negotiate their contracts. I don't think anyone could pack much more into a baseball simulation.

As much as I enjoyed previous baseball sims like Front Page Sports and High Heat, nothing has been as satisfying or held my interest as intensely as the OOTP series and the latest version puts the icing on the cake.

Is it perfect? No. But, nothing is perfect and the 'deep depth' (to quote Earl Weaver) is just amazing.

I tip my hat to Markus and the testing team that put this year's version together.

I second this post...cheers to OOTPBB 2007!!!

But where was this game when I was just a boy flipping all those cards and checking charts and doing box scores by hand and planning out schedules and creating my own player cards with statis pro baseball? I could have played far more than one season a summer thats for sure.

Yeah where were you OOTPBB when we needed you in our youth? I remember one of my first boxed baseball games. It was by Negamco and while it listed all the major league players actual stats to use for the game it could not use their NAMES (they didn't have a MLB license). So, what they did was use _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ for that players name at that Major League teams position he played for and YOU had to WRITE in HIS NAME for every team including extras lol You have any idea how long that took? And because it wasn't starting day roster but end of season roster Street & Smiths Roster lineups and names didn't always match what Negamco has put in for that position and player. lol It was a nightmare to say the least, but, I still played it. It was a pretty good game with a spinner and using players actual stats from the booklet of teams/players you used while playing.

<sigh> I'm 51 now, old and gray haired....at least I lived in a time from one form of gaming to another that has just blown the doors off of enertainment we can have in our lifetime. I could only wished I could have lived until the holodeck age and been a VIRTUAL MLB Pitcher. No I ain't talkin like EA's animated action pitching pitcher, but, the actual feel, an smell of hotdogs and the realism of the crowd roar or booing actually being there on the mound striking out the likes of some of the famous batters of the past. Maybe in heaven that will be a freebie eh? lol

Was that the game with the disc shaped player cards that you put into the spinner? I think I had that one too but statis pro was at the tops of my summer afternoons.

And in Heavan ... I call left field. My wife always asks why a 33 yr old man dives around after balls like an idiot in softball games (I actually missed like a week of work because I dove into home tagging up on a shallow fly ball and the catcher landed on my back). I say ..."Im still 9 and I cant shake that Dad's Club championship feeling"

The spinner game was made by Cadaco and It was called All-Star Baseball.

You can still find the player disks for sale online.
