News/Txt is read-only. Why?
So, the gamesave.lg\news\txt folder is set to Read-Only, and it's giving me problems in game. I get errors saying, "Cannot find blahblah.txt" and I click okay, and I just get another error.
I tried creating the file to see if that would help, and it wouldn't let me create one. So I found out that it's a read-only folder. If I make this folder not read-only, is that gonna give me problems? Is there a reason it's read-only? |

Okay, so apparently unchecking the read-only box doesn't do anything. It just goes right back to read only.
This is a game breaker! I can't get past this error. It says: open_data_file_savely - could not open file 'teams/team_191_injuries.txt' I'll click ok and it tells me: TXT_FILE_CACH::flush_txt_file_cache - could not open target file for writing: team_191_injuries.txt I'll click ok and it reverts back to the first error. I thought maybe I could just manually create this .txt file, but it tells me 'directory or file could not be created'. What the heck is going on here?????? I've simmed 82 years and can't get past this! |

I checked and my folder is also read only, so that is not the problem.
under folder options, check and see if 'show hidden files/folders' is checked. If it is not, check it and see if that helps. I have simmed a thousand 100 year sims during beta and never saw that error one time. You may also want to try and scan your hard drive for any errors. |

Well, I've played with it a lot and have come to the conclusion that there are simply too many files in the folder. The computer doesn't want to write another one in there.
I deleted one of the files in that folder, then tried to create the one it said it was missing... voila, it let me create it. Which would be great, except that I'm going to have to go in and delete a lot of these files so it can write new ones in the future. There are 19,000 files in there... how many should I have to delete? A very large percentage of these are 0kb files. If I wipe those out, would this have an impact on the history of certain teams/players? I wouldn't think so since they're 0 byte files... but why are they there in the first place? You could try asking this question in Tech Support. I know that deleting all 0kb files is the solution to a couple of crash problems, but whether or not yours is one of them…
