Option years calculation issue

Mac, latest patch:

There appears to be an issue with calculating remaining option years. I have observed the following in several tests. The tests involved players who began Spring Training with 3 option years remaining:

-if a player is on the 40-man roster and in the minors on Opening Day, he loses an option year (and his Profile now says '2 option year(s) left'), The same is true of a player demoted on Opening Day, but only after one day is simmed;
-after exactly 20 days in the minors, another option year is deducted (his profile then reads '1 option year(s) left').

Thus, these players appear to be losing two options in a single month. I have had some difficulty working out precisely what programming issue might have produced the bug. For players demoted midseason, a second option is not deducted after 20 days in the minors; a single option is deducted after exactly one day in the minors.

In real life, an option is only assessed when a 40-man roster player spends 20 days in the minors, so I imagine that's why I observe this anomalous behaviour after precisely 20 days- I'd assume there was an attempt to emulate the real life rule. Strangely the 20-day criterion only seems to play a role when counting minor league time for players in the minors on Opening Day; it's as if an attempt was made to implement the rule only for the first 20 days of the season, and at no point afterwards. To be clear, I don't mind whether the 20-day rule is implemented in-game, but a player should not lose two options in a single season.

Oop. This issue was marked as something that cannot be reproduced. Can you double-check that this behavior is happening in another league? If so, can you FTP us a copy of your league file along with instructions that would definitively show this behavior to be happening? If not, maybe a set of screenshots would work?

Strange...

-I created a new league from scratch, same template as the league in which I noticed this issue. From the new league I cannot reproduce this issue;

-I opened an existing league (created under the latest patch), which had six years of history. I could reproduce the issue easily. I unfortunately didn't save a copy of this league, but I expect I can reproduce it with another league, which I'll back up before attempting. In any event, there's a screenshot below of the contract info for one of the affected players (I couldn't make the whole screenshot a small enough file). He was drafted in 2012, put on the 40-man roster in Spring Training 2013, demoted four days before Opening Day 2013, and, as you can see, had 1 option remaining after 20 days of 40-man service time. I simmed day by day, and before Opening Day he had 3 options remaining, between opening day (April 6) and April 26, he had 2 remaining, and now has 1 remaining, on April 26, 2013. I checked with two other players, and the issue occurred with them as well.

Will see if I can reproduce in a league I can back up and ftp to you.

It's a strange bug! In the same league mentioned in my post above, where I saw the bug again, I then simmed forward a year so I could test one final time and upload the league file, and it didn't happen. I'll keep trying, but it clearly does not happen universally, though it certainly happens sometimes- I've seen the behaviour about 20 times now.

That's very odd. Yes, please let us know if you can pin it down.

Nutlaw- I'll update this thread the next time I have a chance to do testing of this issue. I've seen the bug several times, so I expect to be able to provide a league file with instructions to replicate the issue. Testing the issue is a bit time-consuming, so if you could leave this thread open for a little longer than normal, just in case I need it, I'd appreciate it.

We can leave this in the Logged Issues sub-forum as long as you'd like. Once you have things figured out, I'll be happy to fire it back at them.
