Free agency\contract extentions
For free agency I have no money available but for contract extentions I have 30 million. It's the start of the season. Shouldn't money available for signings be the same? How does it arrive at the difference?

No.
The difference is because Money left for Free Agency uses the current seasons payroll. The Money left for Extensions uses next seasons payroll. So if you have 30 million dollars worth of players who could become free agents after the season then that would account for the entire difference in the amount available. |

Is that put in the game by design or is it being looked at? Seems to me that the money should be there for free agents as well.

Its by design, perhaps I didn't explain it well.
Money for Free Agents is CURRENT SEASON money. The contracts you sign free agents too start counting against your team immediately. As a result you can not exceed your teams budget for this year. (Based on last years revenue + cash on hand) Money for Extensions is based on NEXT SEASONS payroll. The contract extension doesn't start counting against your payroll until next year. However because next season you have less money committed for next year, as a result, you have money left. The difference comes because of the timing when the contract takes effect.
