Delete player pool - regenerate player pool
I was hoping there would be an easy way to do this in ootp2007 - but alas, cannot find one.... does it exist?
I would like to be able to use templates for league structure (team names, logos, minor league names, etc -- EVERYTHING - except the player pool). Problem is - all the template and quickstart options seem to yield the EXACT same player pool as with the template/QS. It would be great if there was a simple, quick "Delete all players/regenerate new player pool" option. In older versions of OOTP (I'm thinking OOTP2 through OOTP6.5) -- this could be done by simply creating a new league, starting with an initial draft, then copying the players.dat file from one *.lg folder to another. In OOTP2006 - it got a little harder, as I found you had to bring over multiple files (the scouting.dat and coaches.dat files -- otherwise, you ended up facing a draft with absolutely no ratings of any kind for anyone). I know I'm not the only one that would like something like this - but maybe it's possible right now and I just don't know how? I generally play 10-15 seasons with a fictional league, then like to start a new one with "fresh" players. I also have certain... preferences... for the initial draft pool (I prefer a pool that's heavy with prospects). Is there any quick and easy way to use any of the predefined league setup rules - so I don't need to recreate the teams/league structure/parks/rules/etc every time -- but simply 'regenerate' the entire player pool (and, I guess, coaches/scouts for that matter). I've tried going back to the old 'create a new leage' then copy/paste some files, but I end up with corrupted leagues, so I haven't found that magic formula yet. If not - I'm thinking that many solo players would also like this option. |

Copy/paste appears to require that the players.dat, coaches.dat, and scouting.dat file be be moved from one lg folder to another.
The annoying thing is that your "scout order" gets mucked up -- so your best scout needs be reset as your "head scout". Still -- it just seems like it would be a pretty small addition to include a "delete entire player pool and regenerate new player pool" option for the commissioner setting. |

You can release all the players into the free agent pool, and then delete all free agents. That would give you a blank slate. Then you could add fictional players to all leagues.
Is this what you want to do?

yup...this is one campaign I'll get on board with. Especially would help in my case since I used a template from 2006 with different nation percentages. eventhough the nations.txt is now correct and my newly created players going forward will be at the right ratio, the initial makeup of my universe is not what I originally intended.

Doesn't really work...
copy/pasting files around...
I keep running into bugs - found that adding the coaches.dat messes up scouts (for some reason, I get limited to 2 scouts). PLEASE look into this option - it can't be that hard to dump all playes and regenerate 6000 new ones for the initial draft. I don't even mind if it takes 20 minutes to regenerate the players. This was a really hidden pain in 2006 -- and something I dearly miss from ootp2/3/4/5/6/6.5. The option didn't exist there, either -- but the files were less... connected - so the copy/paste option was more successful. |

I can't help it - I'm very particular about the initial league population. I like a strong class of prospects, strong players at key positions, etc. It's literally a 20-25 game restart - tinkering back and forth with modifiers - until I end up with an initial draft class I like to play with. It sounds petty and a bit silly, but it really ruins the game for me (I eventually reverted to playing OOTP6.5 after 2006 came out) - and the most frustrating part is that it just doesn't seem it should be a difficult thing to do. Obviously, the 'create 6000 players' function is an essential part of any league setup... why can't we just have a simple option to reemploy it? |
