Free agency settings problem

Loving the game so far this year, as deep as anything I've ever played. Today though I came across a problem with league financial options. I started a fictional league in 1920 without free agency and simmed up to 1980 with the intention of turning free agency on in that year. Under game setup/league setup/rules the option to turn on free agency isn't available, it's there but it can't be changed. Am I missing something or aren't we able to turn on free agency mid-league?

May have to wait until the offseason or preseason.

Right now it is Jan. 1st in my league.

It needs to be done sometime in the space between the end of the playoffs and the 1st of the next calendar year, I believe.

Sim up to Feb 15th and all options are available again under Game setup/Rules. All changes can be made in the Pre-season which is announced in League news/league events
