We are all very relieved. Fortunately, it sounds as if there will be some sort of luxury tax on high payroll teams like the Yankees. Hopefully this deal will give small market teams a greater chance to compete, but don't count on it.

Baseball through 2006 and no contraction. Don't expect the luxury tax to do anything towards making the field more equal for low market teams, though.

the big revenue sharing increase is the smelly thing. more money for rich owners who sit by idly and let their team be mediocre (phillies, cubs, blah blah).

Small market owners use that for an excuse not too spend. Everyone knows that the owners are not in it to make money! They never have been, it's about the competition of winning! I wish someone would tell that too the owners of the Mariners. They seem to want too spend just enough to get the M's to the ALCS and not enough to compete with the Yankees. Perhaps when they fail to make the playoffs this year they will change that strategy, though I doubt it. They are always saying that they have to stick to the budget! What budget? This is baseball for crying out loud, not a City's Financial Picture!

Someone gets the picture
"It came down to us playing baseball or having our reputations and life ripped by the fans," said Steve Kline, the Cardinals' player representative.
"Baseball would have never been the same if we had walked out." At least Steve Kline gets it

I'm kinda glad baseball will continue, but really would have rather had a strike...a long one, so we can get all this mess cleaned up. Nothing's been solved at all.

I agree with Andy. This deal won't help the small-market ( = cheap), nor will any until a team minimum salary floor is instituted). Jeff Loria just got a ton richer because of this deal - you think he'll put a penny of it into the Marlins franchise?

They're smarter than I thought.
But then they'd almost have to be.

I'm happy just because this means the Phillies can make amends for 1964 by completing the greatest comeback in the history of baseball by catching the Braves on the final day of the season and winning a one game playoff.

I'm happy it's resolved for now. It means I can take my son to a September game (just him & me & the Dodgers) as we've made it an anual ritual in our family. We baseball fans are so simple.
