Modifying errors
Is it possible to modify the number of errors per game?
I'm currently playing from 1871 and am in the third season now. I was hoping maybe the errors would go down after a season or two but I'm still getting a ridiculous number of errors. Maybe that's the way it was back then, but I just don't like it. Any way to modify this? Thanks! |

There is an option in the league modifiers to change the frequency of errors.
I'll move this to historical leagues as they might be able to give you a run-down on why this is, and whether what you're seeing is correct. |

League FLD% didn't even reach .900 until 1885 and didn't reach .950 until 1904. You are seeing the correct amount of errors in your simulations. The Error Modifier keeps league FLD with +/- .001. So in 1904 the historical League FLD% was .954, in your sim it will be between .953 and .955.
If you want fewer Errors, change the Error Modifier in the Strategies tab to a lower value. If you want half has many errors, change the values to half of what it currently is, if you want 25% less errors then change it to 75% of what it currently is. However, you will need to do this manually each season because if you have automaticaly adjust League Totals Modifiers enabled, OOTP will calculate it to the proper value each season. You will need to override it at the beginning of each year ad change the value yourself. Another option would be to edit the era_stats and put in the value you want for league FLD% each year. Then OOTP will automatically calculate a modifier value to for that fld% for you. |

Great. Thanks for the response. I cringe when I see double digit errors for both teams. I mean, could they have been THAT bad at fielding? Or was the scorer just much harsher?
If it's normal maybe I'll just leave it to play out. JUst funny that pitchers' eras are sub 3.00 and giving up like 10+ runs a game. |

You might have had hills on fields & rocks & even aninmals. At the same time i dont like seeing a guy have 179 errors in 60 game season so i basically do what Garlon suggested lower my error modifer down by 3 or 2. In 1871 i lower it from 6.661 to 3.661. I also lowered strikeoutts from 1.00 to .500 because i was getting too many strikeouts. Thats why i save every season and run test seasons before i run the one that counts. |
