Minors with Lahman Database

Hello to the OOTP board, I'm attempting to go back into 1998 and start a historical sim with the Colorado Rockies. While setting up and post-import of the 98 database, I'm curious as to the situation with minor leagues. As it is known, or so I think, the database does not include minor league teams. Am I better off creating a AAA,AA,Rookie league and to start put 2 teams in each league. After "creating the league" I pan on holding a draft, I am thinking this is the best idea in order to keep the # of fictional players at a minimum. Is this the best idea? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You are correct. The Lahman database does not contain minor league players. There may possibly some minor league databases or I think there may be some roster sets that you can use. Search in the MOD section on that.

In my tests with historical and AAA, I have found there are a couple ways to make it fun.

In the 2007 version, ghost players are back. So, you set a AAA league. Your extra players will be in the minors. Now, since we do not have minor league players for the league, you have 2 choices. One is to use fictional players. You can set their creation levels low or even mark them to never reach the big leagues. Or, you can use ghost players. This is the best, as the minor league teams will play their games and if the team has no SS, a ghost one will be created to fill that spot during the game. This way you can see your minor leaguers playing and see how they do.

But the main thing to look at is how historical do you want your simulation to be? If you have real minor league players in AAA, then the computer will want to pull them up and use them if they are better than players they have. So, when that happens, the historical league is tainted. It is no longer going to produce real results. They will still be close to real, but they are now tainted.

This would be good for 'what if' scenarios, but for historical leagues that you want to be accurate, minor league players are not worth it, IMHO.
