MLB2K7 vs OOTP

So I picked up MLB2K7 today for the 360 and it really is a good game. beautiful to look at and fun to play.

However as I was playing it I was actually wanting to go TEST OOTP 2007. Not play mind you, but test (and there is a big difference)

Now to be fair I have always preferred text sport sim games, at least in part because I am no joystick jockey and my 9 year old is already at the point where he can usually beat me in most console games (but he does play a lot more then I do.)

But still this is a state of the art $60 HD game and I think it shows how far OOTP has come in the past year. Believe me last year I played MLB2k6 a lot more then I played OOTP 2006.

Having said that I recommend renting or picking up MLB2k7 - it will help pass the time till March 23 - but if you are anything like me it will start to get pretty dusty right about that day.

Some reviewers are also praising MLB '07 The Show, which was just released, saying that it has really good gameplay.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

I preordered MLB 07 the show for PSP(hey I don't have any consoles) but haven't picked it up yet. I'm in the same boat you are though, I much prefer the text sims to the console games and have for a very long time. I just finished my preorder for OOTP07 and I'm eagerly anticipating its release.

Speaking of MLB 2K7- wouldn't OOTP be a hoot with the usual OOTP depth- but using the 2K7 graphical engine to show gameplay...All AI decisions could still be generated by the OOTP AI- but the game would be visually rendered with the 2K7 visuals.....Man...I would pay ALOT to play that game...

MLB2K7 keeps a ton of user stats. I just played a few games and I can look at what percentage of my runs scored came from homeruns or base hits. It tracks your percentages of hits to fields against left and right handers. It looks like it could be pretty deep. Graphically its unreal. I was robbed by Jeremy Reed and after he slammed into the wall he recoiled onto his back.

Coolest thing so far was Crosby running over the catcher the ball popping loose, the pitcher who was backing up recovering the ball, and then tagging Crosby out before he could get back to the plate.

I just got MLB '07 The Show for PSP and hoping to get some playing time in soon, '06 for PSP was fantastic.

I suppose I'm mostly in the same boat too. After playing OOTP the problem is almost all baseball games I play on consoles just feel like they are lacking so much, although admittedly they really are two different types of games in their own right with OOTP being a management sim and MLB2k (all of the 2k's) being more of just a sports sim. My biggest problem with console games like the 2k series and MVP is very, very rarly do they work in such a realistic way as OOTP. Partly that comes from the age old human vs. AI battle. I prefer having more realistic stats and so far I've yet to find a console game that does that well. However I haven't played 2k7 yet so it could be good in that department. Enough of my rambling.

I am having fun playing and played over at a friends house tonight, which is really a console game strength playing with and against friends.

It is just that in a game like that realism is never really possible because of how good and bad everyone is with a joystick.

It was funny as hell though to watch one of our friends strikeout every single time.

every once in awhile the console is a great deal of fun, day to day play I will stick with OOTP.

as for the show I have never played it, and I like the concept, but we don't have any PS products so I guess we are out of luck.

Wow, that's depressing. You playing it on PSP, PS2 or PS3?

That's where I ultimately hope to see OOTP go one day.

I hope OOTP stays true to its roots (text based sim) and never goes there.

I am VERY pleased with the manager mode of The SHOW on PSP this year. You can call a lot of options for each pitch and each batter strategically and the dugout view of the game is sweet. The loading screens this year are not the same four "did you know" screens but actually league info, such as probable starters for a series, standings and stat leaders. well done!

MLB2k7 - they have cleaned up the interface quite a bit and I haven't played enough (gone through an off-season or anything like that) to see how good it is. I think it is OK for a console game, but doesn't come close to touching OOTP v3.

I really think Markus and company have a difficult choice on this because I think there are hardcore players on both sides of this issue.

I personally love the game and will be happy if it never progresses graphically but continues to improve in AI and depth.

However - I absolutely loved playing games like FPS 98, Earl Weaver and Tony LaRussa - a modern 3D representation that was fast but had the accuracy and depth of OOTP behind it is to me the holy grail of gaming.

Yep, I second this. PSP version is great and MOM is a wonderful addition for the handheld. and Revised career mode looks intriguing too. Think ITP goes visual!
