Database with fake names for real players?
Are there any database's out there that apply fake names to real player's so that you don't know exactly who you are drafting? If not is their a way to do this without editting each one?

Fictional players can be more fun than real ones. For one thing, you have no expectations based on how they did in real life so whatever they do is a surprise.

Oh yes, I usually do that and love the modern fictional leagues I have created. However I just tried to simulate a league that would go through the era's using fictional players but with historically similar league totals and realized there is probably no way for a Ruthian type player to ever develop.... one who is so far above the rest of the league. You also run into problems of having too many players on teams in the deadball era's and things like that.
I figure if I could use historical players but with fake names and with the semi-random player development events I could still have a fictional league essentially but one that more closely mimics the era's. I definitely prefer fictional to historical and that is why I wanted fake names. Maybe it isn't such a great idea now that I think of it though... still I haven't really enjoyed this historical-fictional league so far and thought this might improve things a bit. Really though the problem is probably deeper than these minor irritations and I should probably just go back to my modern fictional leagues that I always have fun with. |

Err some others have posted since I replied...
Actually I am in full agreement with you all I just wasn't clear in my first post. I really prefer fictional leagues as I enjoy not having preconceived notions about players.. but their are other problems that come associated with using modern fictional rosters and just slapping on new league totals and such. Also the modern players that develop in this game do so realistically but I don't think they allow for the Ruthian-type players who could develop in earlier days. And you are correct Draft Dodger but I am looking to simulate a league from 1900 onwards. The game comes with fake names applied to 2002 rosters only I believe. Basically what I am looking for is that same Career Mode but applied each year from 1900 on and then when I hit the present I can simply use fictional players (if I ever simulated that far). |

I can make a DB for you that would use names of real major leaguers but would have no connections with their stats. For example, Mark McGwire might import for you in 1908 but might be a pitcher or a scrub or might have talents and stats of Tris Speaker. Babe Ruth might import as a career minor league SS. It's anybody's guess. Would you be looking for something like this?

Oh I wouldn't want anyone to go out of their way but that would work just as well.. in fact it might be interesting to see who would become what. Maybe if other people are interested too but don't do it just for me.
