Dear commissioners, our online league server OLS had to be closed due to the fact that some scripts located on that server are being used to attack other servers. The server provider's "abuse department" contacted us and let us know that they will close the server if that doesn't stop.
So we have to update all message board software and all other scripts now, which is on that server. I.e. the commissioners have to do that! I've disabled HTML support for each site now. FTP is still working for each site. Due to the disabled HTML support you will probably not be able to update the forum software. In that case, at least find out which software you're using and what the latest version is, and upload it to your web space to update it as soon as your site is up again. When that is done, please send me an email to andreas@ootpdevelopments.com. Tell me which message board software you're using and which version it has,and whether your league site is active or not. I will enable HTML support for the site again when I get that email. Thank you Andreas [ADDED] The online league server OLS will be closed at the end of this year. [ADDED] Commissioners, please read this thread completely. Last edited by Andreas Raht; 10-19-2006 at 04:34 AM. |

www.leagueserver.net will take on some of the leagues (up to 25) which will give them:
200mb Disk Space 5gb Bandwidth 50 Email Addresses 10 Mailing Lists 10 MySQL Databases But a small google ad must be placed on the site, and potentially another. Plus www.budgethost.ca is offering you a bigger package (1000MB/20G Transfer) at a cost of only $5.95 CAN a month by using promocode OOTP1. and if you sign up for a year for only $59.50 CAN and use promocode OOTP2 it will give you 1000MB Space/20G Transfer plus a free domain name. So basically 1000MB for the cost of one movie rental per month! These are ad free of course

Please, if you want to download your site data from the OLS to have a backup or to use it on another server, download the files "manually" using FTP OR use the archived files which I've made for each site. Have a look at the "root" of your web space when you login using FTP. There are several files, one is a .tar.gz file dated October 6 or 17 (this is your complete web site), the other one is a .sql.gz file dated October 17 (this is the complete database, dumped to a text file).
Download the files, and unzip them on your local computer using TUGzip or a similar tool. Or upload them directly to another web server and unzip them there using gzip and tar (you will need shell access to that server to do that). I can also FTP your files directly from the OLS to another web server for you. Andreas |

Andreas...
Can you restore the OOTP League website EXCEPT the forums? I thought OOTP provided the forum software for my leagues website (http://www.isbl.ootp-online.com/) if that's the case then you need you tell me who the maker is, and where I can get the latest version??? |

Andreas, I believe there is some confusion amongst some of your users as to exactly what is happening. At least for the time being, are you going to continue hosting the leagues that are currently on the OLS? You don't currently have a date that you will be discontinuing the offer to leagues already on the OLS, correct? (I understand you have discontinued the offer to new applicants.)
EDIT: It looks like Andreas has edited his original post and clarified that the OLS will be shutdown at the end of the year.

I am thinking about / working on setting up a free host to host any leagues that need to move. I don't really know what is going on. I just know a league I am in may need a new web host so I am going to try to provide to as many leagues as I can support. If you are interested you can send me an email at league.host@gmail.com. I'll try to have more details soon.

After looking into a little more I can offer free hosting to leagues who need/want it. As long as you are just using it for the league I don't think space/bandwidth will be an issue. If your site is using more than 1G storage space or 10G transfer/month give me a heads up. Right now I don't have a good system setup to take signups so I like to add 4 or 5 leagues on a pilot run (if people are interested). I should be able to get you set up with forums, ftp, all the usual stuff.
Send me an email (league.host@gmail.com) and I’ll work with you to get your league hosted. |

@kq76 - nice idea to add a list of hosts to the IOLD! I've made your thread sticky now, so you can "collect" the data there and publish it on the IOLD. Thank you! |

It has not been easy for us to make this decision, but now it's fixed: The OLS will be closed at the end of this year, i.e. it will go offline on Dec. 31st 2006.
It became too expensive and too time-consuming for us to to manage the server, just because it's not our main business. So we unfortunately have to cancel the "free hosting" offer now. The good news is that there are already some other hosters offering free hosting web space. RBLwebguy already runs several sites on www.leagueserver.net and he's also active in several online leagues. And I will help you to move your files and database to the new web space if needed. I would be really sad if our decision to close the server would be the end for any of "our" online leagues - please check out RBLwebguys's and BlueWaldo's offers and the hosting list which kq76 currently generates. Thank you! Andreas Last edited by Andreas Raht; 10-19-2006 at 04:08 AM. |

OK, done. The site is active again, but please do not link to the forum anywhere (I've already renamed the folder). It's an old XMB forum version and needs to be updated. Which I've tried, but failed The site is http://www.xmbforum.com/

Andreas, I believe you are confusing the word "until" with "at" in both this post and in the addendum to your original post. Your "it will go offline on Dec. 31st 2006" makes it clear to me that you are keeping it open until that time, but "The OLS will be closed until the end of this year" means the exact opposite, that it will be closed immediately until Dec. 31st 2006 at which time it will be reopened. I think what you mean is "it will be closed at the end of this year". With some of the leagues back up it sounds like it is the former, that you are giving everyone until the end of the year to find somewhere else to go.

Yes Andreas... Will the OOTP league server be shut down permanently??? If that's the case then there's no sense to me trying to get the Forums database back up and working.
If it's not going to be shut down, then is there ANYONE out there who's had any luck upgrading to the new XMB forums? If so, please post detailed instructions on how you did it. I've been tinkering with it all night and I haven't had any luck. |

I currently own a nice batch of web space that I will be willing to offer, free of charge to some current OLS online leagues. I can offer this base package to leagues...
300 MB Space 3 GB of Bandwidth 100 E-mail Address 5 MySQL Databases (good for the message forum of your choice and BOSI). cPanel with Fantastico. Play with almost 70 different scripts, including build-in message forums for your league. All leagues will have a ".pointatrad.com" subdomain. If you're interested, send me an e-mail at raderick24@pointatrad.com, or send me a PM and we will get you started.

Of course you're right! Sorry, and thank you for your help. I've corrected it in the posts above. That reminds me of our .400 meeting in Atlanta where I constantly confused "unique" and "uniform" in a discussion about the design of the different websites and games. Everybody smiled and understood what I've actually meant, so it was OK... BTW thanks to all of you for your patience with me, my English still sucks, I'm sorry - but working on it

I also need to know which version of the message board software you're currently using. It needs to be up-to-date! Check the message board developer's web site to find what the latest version number is. The OLS will be online until the end of the year. It will be closed on Dec. 31st., 2006. |

If you move your site to another server, you can easily copy the message board to the new server: When you log in using FTP, you should see the content of your "root folder" of your web space. I.e. you're in the folder where you see the /httpdocs folder. You should see at least two files there, one with the extension .tar.gz, the other one with the extension .sql.gz. The .tar.gz contains all the files of your web site. You can download it instead of downloading the site. You can unzip it on your computer using TUGZip or a similar tool (freeware available on the web, use Google). Or you can upload it to the server and untar it there (if you don't know how, you should use the previously mentioned method). The .sql.gz contains an SQL dump of your database. It's basically a text file with SQL commands. It's zipped using gzip so you have to unzip it first. Then you can either use mysqladmin on your server (if you don't know what that is just use the following method) or you can use a mySQL frontend like phpMYSQLAdmin. phpMYSQLAdmin is already installed on some servers, for example if your server has a PLESK console, it's the "DB Web Manager". Create a database on the server, click on "DB Web Manager" and use "Import" to import the data dump (i.e. the text file). I hope that helps! BTW it's always good to have at least one HTML/Web/PHP/mySQL freak in the league
