hit & runs and double plays
started a fictional career league recently. ive noticed, in the young season, that an inordinate amount of hit and runs have turned into double plays. example: man on first, i call the h&r, theres a fly ball, runner caught too far off first, then gets doubled up off the fly out.
i know this happens every once in a while, but its happened to me the first five games, twice in one game. one PBP description even had a runner getting doubled up from a "easy fly out to right." has anyone else noticed this? i cant imagine that these sorts of double plays are that common. even runners with low baserunning ratings wouldnt get caught that often. wouldnt you normally check to see where the ball is heading before you end up on second (esp. on shallow fly outs)/ v' |

I think part of it is influenced by the ratings for H, K, and BB of the batter. I don't have any hard data but that is what it looks like.

yeah, 5 games into the season is too early too tell, but its just frustrating 'cause now i have to think twice about using a routine hit and run.
perhaps this goes along with what others have said about the increased frequency of double plays in general... v' |

It seems to me to happen a little too often to me, too ... but at least I don't get 'em when the flyout is to left ...
