After the 2003 Phillies storm through the regular season with the best record in the NL, they get ready to play the San Francisco Giants in the wildcard round. The Phillies win the first two games at home in thrilling, come-from-behind fashion and head into San Fran looking to finish out the series and get some rest before the next round. After losing a close game 3, the Phillies consider starting Cy Young award winning pitcher Randy Wolf on 3 days rest for game 4, but decide to try to save him for the next round... but that doesn't work out, and the Phillies head home for game 5 to try to salvage the season.
I posted all of the above just to point out how well this game sucks you in and gets you emotionally attached to the action... I sim all of my regular season games, but I was coaching these playoff games by hand. It was so depressing to watch as my team couldn't put up any offense, Randy had his worst start of the season, Barry Bonds hit 2 home runs, and the Phillies fell in game five, 9-0, that I just had to walk away from the PC for awhile... And it's tough because my wife doesn't get it, so I didn't have a shoulder to cry on! Well, thanks for listening to my sob story, and thanks to the creators of the game for the hell you are putting me through! JSap |

I always smile when I think way back to the first time I put a team into the World Series, still very fresh to this game. This team had barely squeaked in to the playoffs as the Wild Card team and had won each series in thrilling, dramatic fashion, usually losing the first two games and then turning things around.
Well the World Series would be no different and in the 10th inning of the 6th game, down 3 games to 2 and down a run, my pitcher was about to come up to bat with a runner on 2nd and 2 out. I look at my pinch hitters and on a hunch decide to put in my aging catcher who had hit about .200 all year but had a Great clutch rating over a .280 hitting infielder. This guy goes up and hits a 2 run homerun to win the game and I swear I got so caught up in the moment I stood up in my chair and cheered out loud! I felt like an ass but it was actually thrilling after I had put so much time into playing out almost everyone of this teams games and building it up using Talent-only for ratings and really having no idea what I was doing. The team went on to win game 7 and it was probably the most fun I have had on the computer in one night. |
