Baseball America: Player of the Year

I like how they call it Player of the Year as it leads it up for both pitchers and batters. It's really to bad that the MLB can't do this...

ps, this fire truck was donated from my home city to Santana's home country (and if I'm not mistaken...home city) .

In 1999, the Houston Astros Class A Michigan farm club had Roy Oswalt as the #1 starter and Johan Santanta as the #2.

In 2006, the Minnesota Twins had Johan Santana as the #1 starter and Francisco Liriano as the #2.

see, santana = amazing; but liriano = surprising.

I figured Liriano was going to be the #1 in the Pierzynski deal, but I didn't know he was going to be THIS good. I just hope he can stay healthy and he can be the #1 in the Pierzynski deal. It was good to see him fill out his spot, I think and hope he can do it in '07.

We still don't know he's going to be THAT good. He certainly got off to a great start, and his peripherals indicate he wasn't just lucky getting there, but right now he's thrown fewer than 150 innings in the majors and already has a bum elbow on his throwing arm. That fits the profile of a lot of promising young pitchers who never really had good careers. I hope his elbow problems don't sidetrack his career, for baseball's sake, but if there's something fundamentally wrong with his mechanics that's causing his elbow problems, then he's going to have a tough time consistently performing at the level he was this season.

Real or not, it's rather homoerotic. I mean, it's cool to love your players and all, but don't LOVE your players.

I don't see how "Player of the Year" is different from "Most Valuable Player".

If they named it the Babe Ruth Award, then the voters would know it was only for everyday players. Oh, wait a minute......
