Ankit's DB

I came across the link to it last evening while reading through back messages, and was amazed at the depth Ankit went in putting his DB together.

How many of you have used the DB?, and how well do you feel it works. I'm really excited about trying it when I get my full time PC back...but would like to hear how well your results have come out with it. Also, do you need to run Iatric's Era Calc. with it for improved accuracy, or is it close right off the bat

I use it, I like it, and I don't use the Era Calc, and it works fine. But then I play mostly sixties and seventies and eighties ball.

I have used it and like it, but for the Deadball Era it throws career stats off because of the normalization to the 1920's. For instance if a pitcher had a 2.50 era in real life, his career numbers in this DB may have him with like a 3.30 (I just used random numbers, but the normalization effect is like that). After the Deadball Era, this is no longer an issue.

I think it's the best DB out there. Ankit did some really good work.

Ankit DB revisited

I've downloaded and installed it into the game (now that my new PC is back) I'm very pleased with the fact that bit players were weeded out.

Taking the normalization into account, this is afterall fiction, I am very much lookin forward to the DB. Nukester, do you use the Era Calc, or is it worth it given the normalization factor?

Yes I do use the ERACalc. The normalization doesn't effect the ratings for players (the db itself takes care of this) but will effect past career stats for any pitchers starting before 1920. Because the stats and ratings were "normalized" to the 1920 season, most (if not all) pitchers imported before 1920 will have higher ERA's than they really did in real life (RL ERA of 2.50 may be shown in the career stats as a 3.30 instead).

Not a big deal if you erase all career stats before your league begins, but if you dont (like I dont) then all pitchers start the history off with skewed or incorrect past career stats.

Also, it is only for pitchers imported before 1920 (if you import a 1946 season, career stats will be correct-no normalization has been done).

I see what you mean know...

I generally start my sims in 1900-03 or so, and keep the careers, as I like to have their past history with me.

What would really be nice is to have the game generate past season stats for players, prior to the start year of the league. This would also help for those using fictionals, only to see their 38 year old hero amass a whopping 200 hits, 50 HR, and 250 RBi in his career

Sorry to throw off the good will of this post but I have a slight problem I haven't came across the answer to. I just recently decided to go the historical route. I was browsing old posts as well and came across this DB and decided to give it a try.

To make a long story short, everytime I begin the process of importing the players...I get between 100-150 players deep and I get an Illegal Operation fault. Not sure what the cause of this is...I proceeded to change the year thinking maybe it was just because I was importing a certain year...but the same thing happened. I've also tried with Lahmans Database since then...same results. I still use OOTP3, but I wouldn't think that would be the problem. Sorry if it's been answered but I didn't find it anywhere.

Thanks for any help anyone might be able to lend me. These posts that are telling how good this Database is are making me even more anxious to figure this problem out.

Ankit's db is a version 4.5 database. OOTP3 uses version 4.x (an earlier version of the db). Same with the Lahman db. You can not use a version 4.5 with it.

Sorry BoSox. The db thingy was to answer Flawlessone's question. Here is the link to a couple of version 4.0 databases. The second one is used to start a league (fixes some sorting errors) and the first one is a modified version of the database that you can use to import rookies based on their career averages, instead of their rookie season like the first one.

I liked the rookie career averages for running my solo historical league, and when I got OOTP4, I took that file and restructured it to the version 4.5 format and use that now for OOTP4.

Version 4.0 database and modified rookie version
