Vargas bout
Vargas vs. Mayorga Postponed!
Routine blood test by Vargas reveals severe anemia; fight will be rescheduled It's official. Los Angeles fight fans who had already purchased nearly $1 million worth of tickets to see "Ferocious" Fernando Vargas vs. Ricardo "El Matador" Mayorga at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles on Sept. 8 will have to wait for the bout to be rescheduled after a routine blood test by Vargas on Friday revealed a severe iron deficiency. Vargas' doctor ordered him to not participate in the highly anticipated match and to take the necessary weeks of treatment to correct the problem. Promoters of the event Don King Productions and Main Events in association with STAPLES Center will notify the public as soon as a rescheduled date can be confirmed. Sunday, August 26 2007 |

Vargas doesn't take care of himself the way an athlete should. I wouldn't be surprised if this fight never takes place because neither guy seems too serious about the sport anymore. When two fighters sign for a fight that is twenty pounds above their best weight, it's all about the money.

I'm glad I taped the preview @ 1am last night on Showtime - they won't need to show it all those other times they had scheduled now, if ever. Yeah Mike, I thought about that too. I'll bet that's one of the 1st things Vargas thought of when the doc told him the news. |

Gee, I thought Showtime would have this one @ $29.95. It's been a while since they had a PPV fight but I always thought theirs were less - especially for a non-title fight.
Vargas on the mend! Fernando Vargas' health has already improved to the point he is "chomping at the bit" to get back to full training, which will occur in about three weeks. He is set to face Ricardo Mayorga at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles on the Friday of Thanksgiving weekend, November 23. The match was rescheduled when Vargas's doctor ordered him to pull out of the original September 8 date to correct an iron deficiency. Fight fans have already purchased nearly $1 million worth of tickets to see the fight and an additional $16,000 worth of tickets were sold during the five days it took to find a new date -- a testament to the public's desire to see Vargas-Mayorga. The event will also be televised live domestically beginning at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT at a suggested retail price of $44.95 and is being distributed by SHOWTIME PPV. Wednesday, September 5 2007 |
