Grady Brewer vs. Steve Forbes (Contender Finale)

I have been following it most of the season and originally picked Steve Forbes to win it. He is still the favorite in my eyes but Grady Brewer has won me over with his heart and determination. Every fight he has been behind or had an obstacle in his way but managed to pull through. Steve will probably win a UD but do not count out Grady. What is everyone's thought on this?

kind of a spoiler in the thread title there ... luckily I watched my video of it this morning.

See this is the problem with this years contender .. who cares if Forbes wins it .. he is already past his prime and Brewer is 35. It was really stupid of them not to get young guys. Mora is exciting to follow because he is an undefeated prospect.

Well, it's been four days since the show aired so I don't think that big of a spoiler on a87star's part. As for the fight I'm taking Forbes by UD.

I agree but it's good to see two guys past their prime scrapping it out for one more chance at glory. Whoever wins will not make a big impact IMO but I credit these two and the other fourteen for trying to revive something that seemed dead before this show.

If "The Contender" wants to make the show more attractive, they should get undefeated prospects like the ones from Europe who don't get airtime on television here in the US. SHO is trying to do that with their SMW tournament and they should have more competitions like that to showcase viable boxing talent.

Just saying the thread title should have been Contender final or something along those lines. I think if they market these guys on ESPN afterwards they should go with Bundrage on the undercards because he is young.

I think part of the qualifications should be .. no more than 2 loses, not older than 28, never have won a world title. So Forbes or Brewer wins so what, could they beat Ouma? No .. could either of them beat Mayweather, Baldomir, Hatton, Margarito? No .. there is your problem. Mora is growing in talent every fight and while slim, you think he might have a chance at a title. None of these guys do.

Sorry about the title. I should have done it "Contender Finale" but I thought a lot of people from had saw the last episode. For the most part the qualifications should be more strict. It should be geared more towards fighters who are prospects with keeping the age limit under thirty. There is a lot of good young talent between JWW and SMW and they should have done a season on the prospects in those weight classes. Bundrage should have a future outside of the contender and perhaps a few other guys like Curiel. Personally neither Forbes or Brewer could beat Kassim Ouma but it is the human interest story behind those type of guys that is somewhat attractive. I definitely think a show like "The Contender" should be geared towards younger guys but seeing journeymen getting a second chance is not that bad either.

I'm curious as to all of your opinions on Walter Wright. I was very impressed with his talent and I thought he was a better fighter than Bundrage, but it seemed to me that his youth and inexperience caused him to get sucked in by Bundrage's tactics.(Bundrage is an extremely dirty fight IMO, but it gets the job done)

I think Walter Wright has a chance to do some good things outside of "The Contender". My big knock on him is experience and the fact he has only fought in his hometown of Seattle. He could possibly be a title holder but i'm gearing towards a mid-level/gatekeeper type guy but Walter's age does work in his favor.

I thought Wright was pretty much a jerk on the show, but maybe he could be a good fighter.
